Torn Moccasins

Moccasins tell the story of one’s relentless journey
They never fail the many miles worn during troubled worry

It keeps the soul strong and meek

It tallies the relentless courage not showing any part of the word WEAK

Moccasins carry the fire of one’s warrior spirit
Taking on challenges with true merit

Each decorative pattern tells many events of importance
To prepare for future generations how to take a colorful stance
My moccasins have walked the paths of victory and pain
Each one needing repair while carrying the torch of courage without

VAIN

I have worn my moccasins in the dance of healing
Enjoying the power of each step with true meaning

Facing today’s vital toxins
I will keep my torn moccasins

🌟 CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR FOUNDER, MITCHELENE BIGMAN! 🌟

Today, we are incredibly proud to celebrate a remarkable achievement for the founder of Native American Women Warriors, Mitchelene BigMan.

Mitchelene has been named to the Forbes Veteran 250, a prestigious list recognizing 250 veterans who have demonstrated extraordinary success, leadership, reinvention, and impact after their military service. 🇺🇸

This recognition is especially meaningful as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary in 2026. The Forbes Veteran 250 honors veterans who have taken the values, discipline, courage, and leadership developed through military service and carried them forward into their communities and beyond.

Mitchelene’s journey is a powerful example of that spirit.

As a U.S. Army veteran and proud member of the Crow Nation, she took her military experience and transformed it into a movement that has empowered Native American women veterans across the country. In 2010, she founded Native American Women Warriors, creating a space where Native women veterans could honor their service, reclaim their culture, support one another, and educate the nation about the contributions of Native American women in the military.

Her vision has grown into something far greater than a color guard. It has become a sisterhood, a source of cultural pride, a voice for Native women veterans, and a legacy of service.

Mitchelene, your recognition by Forbes is so much more than an individual accomplishment. It represents every Native woman warrior who has served, every family who has supported a service member, and every woman who continues to carry the strength and resilience of those who came before her.

We are so incredibly proud to call you our founder, our leader, our mentor, and our Warrior Sister. ❤️💙🤍

Congratulations, Mitchelene BigMan, on being named one of the Forbes Veteran 250!

Your service didn't end when you took off the uniform—it became the foundation for a lifetime of service, leadership, advocacy, and inspiration.

We honor you. We celebrate you. And we thank you for the legacy you continue to build.

🪶🇺🇸 Warriors Then. Warriors Now. Warriors Always. 🇺🇸🪶

âšľ Native American Women Warriors Make History at the Ballpark âšľ

The Native American Women Warriors (NAWW) are honored to take part in our first-ever baseball event on August 7, 2026, at Las Vegas Ballpark during Native American Heritage Night as the Las Vegas Aviators take on the Tacoma Raniers.

This event holds special meaning as Las Vegas Ballpark stands on the ancestral homelands of the Moapa Band of Paiute and the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to stand on these lands with respect, remembrance, and gratitude.

Just one week ago, on July 30, NAWW had the privilege of carrying the Moapa Band of Paiute and Las Vegas Paiute Tribe flags during the WNBA Las Vegas Aces Native American Heritage Night. It is an honor to continue recognizing and uplifting the original peoples of these lands as we represent Native women veterans.
Join us for an evening celebrating: âšľ Native American Heritage

🪶 Indigenous culture and performances
🇺🇸 Honoring our veterans and military service
🤝 Community, unity, and resilience
To the Moapa Band of Paiute and the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe—Wliwni (thank you) for allowing us to walk alongside you in respect and unity.
We hope to see you at the ballpark!
