Fort Bend Transit is replacing its Westpark-to-Energy Corridor route with direct weekday commuter service to Downtown Houston beginning Monday, October 12.

The change follows community feedback showing that riders preferred a Downtown destination.

The Harris County Public Health Mobile Dental Clinic scheduled for Monday, October 12, has been canceled because Fairbanks Branch Library will be closed.

The clinic has been rescheduled for:

🍽️ Closed from 12 PM to 1 PM for lunch

FATAL CRASH IN WEST HOUSTON LEAVES MAN DEAD, SERGEANT STRUCK DURING INVESTIGATION:

A man is dead following a crash in southwest Houston after a driver allegedly ran a red light at a high rate of speed. A Houston police sergeant was also struck by a vehicle while officers investigated the fatal collision.

The crash happened around 1:49 a.m. Saturday, October 10, at Hillcroft Avenue and Richmond Avenue.

According to police, witnesses reported seeing a driver traveling northbound on Hillcroft Avenue at a high rate of speed before running a red light at Richmond Avenue and striking another vehicle.

Houston Fire Department crews had to extricate the victim from the wreckage before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver accused of causing the crash reportedly left the scene but was taken into custody a short distance away. Police evaluated the driver for intoxication but said he did not meet the threshold at the scene.

The investigation took another dangerous turn when multiple vehicles allegedly breached police barriers surrounding the crash scene. Several patrol vehicles were damaged, and a sergeant who was on foot was struck by a vehicle. The sergeant suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

Police also reported additional enforcement actions involving drivers at the scene, including a passenger who was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant.

Investigators were reportedly working with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office regarding a possible reckless manslaughter charge. A formal charge against the primary driver had not been confirmed in the reports available at the time.

The identity of the man who died has not been released.

MIGUEL PARRA-HERNANDEZ’S FAMILY DEMANDS ANSWERS AFTER ICE VEHICLE INCIDENT IN HOUSTON

Miguel Parra-Hernandez’s family and community advocates gathered Sunday morning for a press conference following an incident near Clay Road and Highway 6 that left him hospitalized with fractures to both legs.

According to the family and speakers at the press conference, Miguel was on his way to work with a friend around 7:30 a.m. Saturday when an unmarked black vehicle allegedly pursued him. They said the vehicle had no active emergency lights or visible identifying markings and questioned whether Miguel knew he was being pursued by federal agents.

Miguel’s brother, Rodolfo Parra, disputed claims portraying him as a criminal. His niece also spoke, saying Miguel had left home to work and calling for transparency about what happened before he was struck.

The family stated that Miguel was driving the truck, which did not belong to him, and that he had no outstanding warrants or criminal history.

According to statements made at the press conference, Miguel suffered fractures to both legs, with one leg broken in three places. Speakers also raised questions about the emergency response and called for a thorough investigation.

César Espinosa, executive director of FIEL, Richard Alexander of Houston Haitians United, and other community advocates expressed solidarity with the family and called for transparency and accountability.

ICE maintains that Miguel ran in front of its vehicle and was struck. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the collision.

The family is seeking answers about the pursuit, the collision and the actions of the agents involved.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY AFTER DEADLY SHOOTING IN EAST HOUSTON:

A confrontation outside an East Houston residence ended in a deadly shooting Saturday night, and police later detained a man who may be connected to the case.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. along Harrisburg Boulevard near Delmar. Investigators say the victim questioned another man about his presence at a home where he did not live.

Houston police arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive.

As investigators gathered information from witnesses at the scene, officers received a report of another shooting roughly a mile farther east.

At that location, police encountered a man with a gunshot wound to his foot. His description reportedly matched information witnesses had provided about the person involved in the earlier incident.

Officers detained the man, who was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the man has been formally charged in connection with the fatal shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.

🦺 NEARLY 1,200 LIFE JACKETS DONATED TO SURFSIDE BEACH

Schlitterbahn Galveston has donated nearly 1,200 new life jackets to Surfside Beach, significantly expanding the community’s free beach safety program.

Officials plan to install life jacket racks at all five public beach entrances. Visitors will be able to borrow a jacket at no cost and return it after leaving the water so another family can use it.

A small number of jackets will be available immediately, while most are expected to be placed at beach entrances when the next beach season begins.

Surfside Police Chief Philip Hester estimated the donation’s value at approximately $40,000 to $50,000.

PASSENGER STRUCK BY ICE AGENT DURING CLAY ROAD PURSUIT; DRIVER ESCAPES

A 48-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle operated by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an incident on Clay Road in northwest Harris County.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 7:20 a.m. near 16210 Clay Road. ICE agents were pursuing a driver who reportedly had an outstanding felony warrant.

Authorities said the driver traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Both the driver and passenger ran from the vehicle.

During an attempt to apprehend the passenger behind a nearby building, an ICE agent maneuvered the vehicle to box him in and struck him.

The passenger was transported to a hospital. Investigators believe he may have suffered a broken leg, although his injuries are still being evaluated. He is currently in ICE custody at the hospital.

The driver escaped and was not captured at the scene.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is investigating the collision. Investigators are also seeking surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that ICE called 911 to request emergency medical assistance. Questions about the federal enforcement action and the outstanding warrant have been referred to ICE.

The investigation remains ongoing.
