It’s that time of year! The City of Melbourne is hosting this year’s Lagoon Fest (formally known as IRL Day). It will be held on Saturday October 17th at Front St. Park again. Hear speakers at the park's Community Center and visit all of the vendors spread throughout the park. There will be live music and food trucks again as well. Oh, and we'll be there, too. Flashback Friday: A 1958 photo of Sebastian Inlet following a number of projects to deepen and widen the inlet channel. More than 355,600 cubic yards of sediment were removed. New concrete construction extended both the north and south jetties, 250 feet and 175 feet, respectively. More photo are available for viewing at www.sitd.us/the-history-of-sebastian-inlet

It's no secret that Sebastian Inlet is a significant habitat for hundreds of species of fish. If bait fish are a valuable resource, then anglers are leaving a lot of money on the jetty. You can do better. Under Florida Statute 379.2421, anyone taking fish using nets, seines, or other fishing devices who chooses not to keep them due to size, preference, or other reasons is legally required to return them to the water.
