It is our eventual goal to create jobs and a supply of building materials by promoting the deconstruction ( also called dismantlement) and/or repair of these abandoned buildings. The jobs created will go to returning vets, re-entry citizens, homeless, formerly homeless, and the chronically unemployed. We believe that to make this happen we must restore Michigan Streets to 2 way traffic, while re
serving meaningful, safe, walk-able and bike-able space on New York Street. At our September 2014 meeting Jean Miller and Danni McPherron from Indiana Recycling Coalition described details regarding the Board of Public Works' $112 million contract with NJ firm Covanta. The City agreed to the contract without public knowledge or input. It prohibits municipal recycling AND mandates the mixing of Marion County's recyclables with TRASH until 2028. Two town hall open mic meetings in 2015 gave neighbors a chance to speak out, and learn more, about Green Lane and Pennsy Trail bike trail projects impacting our neighborhoods.
