***STRUCTURED FAMILY CARE***

What is Structured Family Caregiving? Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) is a Medicaid-funded benefit that supports primary unpaid caregivers of persons who are generally aged, disabled, or have Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. The caregiver lives with the care recipient and receives payment for providing supervision, personal care assistance, and homemaker services. Caregivers are provided with education and training based on current and anticipated needs of their loved one, coaching (including emotional support), a fill-in caregiver, and / or respite care.

Drink Plenty of Water. Drink a cup of water every 20 minutes, even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with high sugar, caffeine, or alcohol, as they can cause you to lose fluids faster.

Pay close attention to the signs your body is sending you.

1. Heat Exhaustion - Look for heavy sweating, extreme weakness, dizziness, nausea, or a fast, weak pulse. Move to a cooler area, loosen clothing, and sip water.

2. Heat Stroke - This is a severe medical emergency characterized by a body temperature over 103° F, hot and red skin, a rapid pulse, and confusion. Call 9-1-1 immediately and try to cool the person down with wet cloths or ice packs while waiting for help.
