I hear this all the time from business owners:

"Is networking even worth it anymore?"

For many people, networking feels awkward. Forced. Transactional. Like you're collecting business cards instead of building relationships.

After sitting down with Joe Gervase on Talk with Coach, one thing became crystal clear...

Networking isn't broken. Our approach to it often is.

One of my favorite takeaways from our conversation was this:

👉 Not every relationship has to make sense today.

Some of the best referral partners, clients, mentors, and friends in my life started with a simple conversation over coffee or a quick introduction at an event.

There was no immediate opportunity.
No sales pitch.
No expectation.

Just two people getting to know each other.

Months—or even years—later, those relationships became incredibly valuable.

Joe also shared something I couldn't agree with more:

The people who create the greatest influence aren't always the best talkers... they're the best listeners.

When you genuinely seek to understand someone instead of trying to impress them, everything changes.

And here's another reminder we all need:

✨ Trust isn't built at the networking event.
✨ It's built in the follow-up.
✨ In checking in.
✨ In making thoughtful introductions.
✨ In consistently showing up.

Business can be lonely. But it doesn't have to be.

The strongest businesses aren't built on transactions.
They're built on authentic relationships that grow over time.

🚨 What if the “right time” is actually what’s keeping you stuck?

Just wrapped an incredible conversation on Talk with Coach with Elyssa Hill — and wow… this one is about so much more than real estate.

And this reminder hit HARD:

“Marry the house, date the rate.”

The market changes.
Business changes.
Life changes.

But people who stay consistent through the hard seasons are the ones who create long-term success.

One of the things I love most about events like this is the reminder that networking isn’t just about business cards and elevator pitches — it’s about relationships. It’s about seeing familiar faces, meeting incredible business leaders in our community, hearing people’s stories, and finding ways to genuinely support one another.

And let’s be honest… where else can you:
☕️ solve business problems before 9am
☕️ reconnect with friends
☕️ meet future collaborators
☕️ and somehow leave with 3 new ideas, 2 coffee stains, and 1 more reason you love this community? 😂

Grateful for organizations like Aspire Johnson County that create spaces for connection, collaboration, and growth. Johnson County is filled with some pretty incredible people and leaders.

Business grows through relationships.
Community grows through connection.
And coffee… well… coffee just helps us all communicate faster. ☕️😉 Thank you to for hosting!

But honestly?
Business growth and personal growth are usually holding hands.

Because behind every struggling business is often:

• overwhelm
• lack of boundaries
• inconsistent leadership
• or a leader carrying WAY too much alone.

And behind every thriving business?
A leader willing to grow first. 💙

So yes… technically I’m a business coach.

But some days I’m also part strategist, part encourager, part mirror, and part “lovingly calling you out on your excuses.” 😂

Every single one of us has experienced conflict in some form.
Marriage. Parenting. Business. Friendships. Leadership. Divorce.

But one thing really stood out to me in my latest Talk with Coach podcast episode with Jennifer Struffert:

👉 Conflict itself is not always the biggest problem.
How we communicate through it is.

Jennifer’s story is incredibly powerful because she didn’t just learn about conflict resolution professionally… she lived it personally through a high-conflict divorce and co-parenting journey.

Instead of allowing that pain to define her, she turned it into purpose and now helps others navigate conflict, relationships, and communication in healthier ways.

One of the biggest takeaways for me was this:

“I can’t control what someone else does… but I can control how I show up.”

Wow.

How often do we:
• Assume instead of ask?
• React instead of listen?
• Defend instead of get curious?

One simple example Jennifer shared completely shifted the perspective:

❌ “You work too much. You care more about work than your family.”

vs.

✅ “I love how dedicated you are to your work… and I miss you. Can we plan something together this weekend?”

Same issue.
Different delivery.
Different outcome.

That’s the power of communication.

This conversation goes far beyond divorce. It applies to:
✔️ Leadership
✔️ Parenting
✔️ Marriage
✔️ Team communication
✔️ Friendships
✔️ Business relationships

Because communication is not just a “soft skill.”
It’s one of the most important life skills we have.
