Sometimes the lesson you planned isn’t the lesson your teachers need.

Recently, I facilitated a project-based learning experience focused on AI for teachers. I originally thought we could start with something familiar and accessible, like Canva, and quickly move into more advanced AI applications.

But first, I had to assess the room.

What I realized was important: we were still largely at the Substitution level of the SAMR model.

*S: Substitution
*A: Augmentation
*M: Modification
*R: Redefinition

And that changed my approach.

Before we can ask teachers to use AI to redefine learning, we have to build their confidence, understanding, and capacity to move beyond simply using AI as a replacement for something they were already doing. So we started where they were.

The goal isn’t to use AI because it’s new. The goal is to intentionally move from:

"AI helped me do this faster.”

to

“AI helped me create a learning experience that wasn’t possible before.”

That’s the shift I want teachers to experience.

AI professional development cannot be one-size-fits-all. Assess first. Meet teachers where they are. Then build the bridge from Substitution to Redefinition.

College planning isn't just about where your child will go. It’s also about **how your family will pay for it without sacrificing your financial future.

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with, Gwen Thomas for an important conversation about preparing financially for college.

We talked about planning early, making informed decisions, understanding the real costs of college, and helping our children pursue their dreams without parents putting their own financial stability at risk.

One of my biggest takeaways: College readiness should include financial readiness.
