DO YOU KNOW HOW TO USE AN EPIPEN? πŸ’‰

A nut allergy reaction can go from "I feel a little off" to a full emergency in minutes. If you're anywhere near someone with a severe allergy, whether it's your kid, a friend, or a coworker, this is genuinely worth 30 seconds of your time.

Most people have seen an EpiPen. Fewer people actually know how to use one under pressure, and pressure is exactly what you'll have if it's ever needed for real.

Watch this video, then watch it again. The steps are simple, but simple isn't the same as automatic. Automatic comes from knowing it cold before the moment ever happens.

If you know someone with a severe allergy, this is the video to send them. Save it, share it, or better yet, come practice it hands-on with us.

Did you already know how to use one? Tell us below. πŸ‘‡

Want to build real confidence for moments like this, not just watch a video once and hope you remember? Our next class covers it hands-on. Link in bio.

FAQ FRIDAY

"Do you need to check for a pulse every single time before starting CPR on an adult who has collapsed and is unresponsive?"

This is one of those questions that comes from good intentions, you want to be thorough, you want to do it "right." But in this case, being thorough is actually the thing that costs time you don't have.

Here's the truth.

Healthcare providers check for a pulse for up to 10 seconds, but lay rescuers are advised not to spend time checking for a pulse. If an adult is unresponsive and not breathing normally, you should start CPR immediately.

That distinction matters. Trained medical professionals have the skill to check a pulse quickly and accurately under pressure. For everyone else, fumbling to find a pulse wastes precious seconds, and if you're wrong, you've delayed compressions that could've kept blood flowing to the brain.

The rule for the rest of us is simple: unresponsive, not breathing normally, start CPR. No pulse check required.

A coworker accidentally splashes a harsh chemical cleaner into their eye. What is the immediate, correct action to take?

A. Rub the eye vigorously to remove any chemical residue
B. Flush the eye continuously with clean, running water or saline for at least 15 minutes

Pick your answer before you keep scrolling.

If you picked A, that instinct is one of the worst things you can actually do here. Rubbing the eye spreads the chemical around and can grind it further into the surface, making the damage worse instead of better.

The answer is B.

Flush the eye continuously with clean, running water or saline for at least 15 minutes. Not a quick splash, not a few seconds under the tap, a full, sustained flush. Time matters here. The longer a chemical sits on the eye, the more damage it can cause, so that continuous flushing is what actually limits the injury.

This is one of those workplace moments that catches people completely off guard. Cleaning supplies, break room chemicals, industrial products, it can happen anywhere, and knowing the right response in the first few seconds can be the difference between a scare and a lasting injury.

Comment below and tell us how you responded. Did you get it right? πŸ‘‡

MYTH MONDAY 🚫

"Putting ice or butter on a burn helps it heal faster."

This one gets passed around constantly, ice feels soothing, butter feels like it's "sealing" the burn. Both seem like reasonable first instincts. Neither one is right.

THE FACT: Ice can damage skin tissue and make burns worse, while butter traps heat and increases infection risk.

Ice sounds logical since burns are about heat, so cold should help, right? But ice is actually too extreme for already-damaged skin. It can cause further tissue injury on top of the burn itself. And butter, despite the old-school advice, traps heat against the skin instead of releasing it, which can deepen the burn and introduce bacteria into an open wound.

THE CORRECT STEP: Cool (not icy) running water for several minutes, followed by proper covering.

That's it. No home remedies, no kitchen shortcuts. Just cool running water and a clean covering, simple, but only effective if you actually know it's the right move in the moment.

Did you grow up hearing the ice or butter advice too? Tag someone who needs to see this. πŸ‘‡

FAQ FRIDAY

"If someone collapses and is not breathing, will doing chest compressions break their ribs, and should you stop if you feel a crack?"

This is one of the biggest reasons people hesitate mid-CPR, or don't start at all. You're pushing hard on someone's chest, you feel or hear something, and your first instinct is to panic and pull back.

Here's the truth.

Rib fractures or cartilage separation can sometimes occur during proper, effective chest compressions. That's not a sign you're doing it wrong. Honestly, it's often the opposite. But you should not stop, because keeping blood flowing takes priority over a fractured rib.

Let that sink in for a second. A rib heals. A brain and vital organs starved of oxygen for too long do not. If you stop compressions because you're worried about hurting them, you're taking away their actual chance of survival to avoid an injury that's treatable.

This is exactly the kind of moment where hesitation costs more than action. Knowing this beforehand means you won't freeze if it happens to you.
