The design process has officially begun on the Butler Penn Theatre community mosaic - and I'm swooning.
I always start full-scale, chalk-on-the-pavement. It looks deceptively small at this stage... but that's the magic — chalk shows me exactly how much detail those chunky glass pieces can actually hold.
But this project has a twist. Instead of going straight to backer boards, we're adding a whole new layer of depth with hand-sculpted ceramic tiles.

the talented Jessica Gorlin Liddell of Bella Mosaic Art. These tile medallions are going to add incredible dimensional contrast against the glass once they're fired and glazed.
This mural is going to carry 100+ years of Butler's story and the community is going to add their own voice in a few short weeks!

🎨 Want to be part of something that will last for generations?

Join artist Carrie Strope and help create a HISTORIC mosaic on the side of the Penn Theater in Butler as part of Steeples & Stacks Heritage Weekend!

Groups and individuals are welcome. You'll help break glass, outline the design with mirrored glass, and add colorful pieces that bring Butler's iconic industrial history to life.
