🌳 Some of the best people on Earth are arborists. And this weekend reminded me why.

This past weekend, the Treegorilla family traveled to St. Louis for the 50th International Tree Climbing Championship, bringing home far more than new gear!

Since 2007, I’ve been involved in tree climbing competitions in one capacity or another. But watching my crew and family build relationships, learn new skills, and connect with arborists from around the world might be the most rewarding part yet.

My 12-year-old son, Truman, grew up in this community. By Saturday afternoon, I realized he had more friends at the ITCC than I did! 😂 He spent the weekend sharing his love of trees, introducing people to Claus Mattheck’s Stupsi Explains the Tree, representing our Natural State Tree Climbing Championship, and apparently arranging invitations for us to visit half of Europe and Asia!

Our crew came home with new equipment, new knowledge, new friendships, and renewed enthusiasm for becoming better arborists. We shared an Airbnb with old friends from Nashville, Maui, and Fort Worth, welcomed the next generation of climbing families, explored St. Louis together, and joined nearly 100 arborists for an unforgettable Saturday night at City Museum.

I didn’t take nearly enough pictures, but the memories and friendships will last a lifetime.

At Treegorilla, we believe expertise isn’t just something you earn. It’s something you continually pursue, alongside people who challenge you to grow.

Different countries. Different languages. One incredible community.

I’m beyond grateful that my family and our team get to be part of it.

We’re incredibly proud to congratulate Brian Siler on officially becoming an ISA Certified Arborist®!

Brian has spent years working in the tree care industry, but what impresses us most isn’t simply his experience… it’s his willingness to keep learning, keep asking questions, and keep getting better.

That’s exactly the culture we want at Treegorilla Tree Care Experts.

Our core values are Safety. Integrity. Stewardship. Teamwork. Expertise. They aren’t just words on a banner. We want them reflected in how we care for trees, how we serve our clients, and how we invest in the people on our team.

Earlier this year, Chad earned the ISA Board Certified Master Arborist® credential. Now Brian has earned his ISA Certified Arborist® credential… and we’re not finished.

We believe good arboriculture requires a lifetime of learning. Trees are living systems, and the more we understand about them, the better stewards we can be of the trees and landscapes entrusted to our care.

This is the fruit we want Treegorilla to produce: Better arborists. Better leaders. A stronger team. And better tree care for Central Arkansas.

Those cracks in your tree may be telling you its story! 🌳👇

Ever wonder what a tree can tell you just by looking at its trunk? 🌳

Truman asked me why this tree has long cracks and ribs running up the trunk… so we pulled out one of my favorite books on tree biomechanics and let the tree tell us its story.

Those ribs aren’t just scars. They’re evidence of how this tree has responded to stress, changed its growth, and adapted to its surroundings over time.

Trees are constantly telling us what has happened to them—you just have to know what you’re looking at.

And getting to teach Truman a little of what I’ve spent my career learning? That makes this one pretty special.

🇺🇸 Arborists United for Veteran Remembrance 🇺🇸

Yesterday was one of those days that reminds me why I’m proud to be part of the tree care industry.

Arborists, climbers, ground crews, utility professionals, forestry professionals and volunteers came together at the Little Rock National Cemetery for Saluting Branches — Arborists United for Veteran Remembrance.

There’s something humbling about climbing and caring for trees while surrounded by rows upon rows of headstones representing men and women who served our country. We get to use the skills we make our living with every day to help care for the final resting place of those who served and sacrificed for us.

Treegorilla Tree Care Experts was proud to once again be part of that effort.

A huge thank-you to Entergy and the crews they sent out, the Arkansas Department of Agriculture – Forestry Division, and the Arkansas Urban Forestry Council for helping make the Little Rock event possible.

I’m especially proud of the Treegorilla guys who chose to spend the day serving: Brian, Andrew and Keith. And a big thank-you to the independent climbers who brought their skills and worked right alongside us: Elijah W., Elijah D. and Justin B.

It takes more than climbers and saws to make a volunteer event like this happen. We also want to thank Vermeer MidSouth, TruckPro and Ace Hardware for generously donating door prizes for our volunteers. Those contributions are a great way to recognize the men and women who donated their time, equipment and expertise for the day.

Days like this are a reminder that service is bigger than any one company. Competitors become teammates. Different organizations bring different resources. Everybody shows up with one purpose:

Honor those who served by serving them in the way we know how. 🇺🇸🌳

Thank you to every person and organization who showed up, donated, climbed, dragged brush, ran equipment, organized, supported or otherwise helped make another Saluting Branches day at Little Rock National Cemetery possible.

🇺🇸 TODAY WE SERVE. 🌳

Today, Treegorilla Tree Care Experts is proud to once again take part in Saluting Branches — Arborists United for Veteran Remembrance, the tree care industry’s national day of service honoring the men and women who have served our country.

Across the country, thousands of arborists, climbers, equipment operators and volunteers are putting their normal work aside for the day and donating their skills to care for the trees and landscapes at cemeteries and other properties dedicated to our veterans.

The impact is incredible.

🌳 More than 4,000 volunteers
🇺🇸 Nearly 100 veteran-dedicated properties
💰 $4.6 million in donated services during the 2024 Day of Service alone
💚 More than $21 million in professional services donated since Saluting Branches began

For Treegorilla, this one is personal.

Our owner and Board Certified Master Arborist, Chad Bryant, has been involved with Saluting Branches since its early years and has served as one of the site leaders for our local Day of Service since the second year of the national project.

It’s become a tradition we are incredibly proud to continue.

But we don’t want that spirit of service to end when today’s work is finished.

🇺🇸 Labor Day hits a little different when you make your living with your hands.

Treegorilla has never been built by one person.

It has been built by a lot of people, over a lot of years.

People who climbed trees, dragged brush, ran ropes, operated equipment, sharpened saws, answered phones, worked through Arkansas heat, learned new skills, solved hard problems, and showed up when there was work to be done.

Some of those people are still beside me today. Some have moved on to the next chapter of their lives. But every person who has genuinely contributed to this company has left something behind that helped make Treegorilla what it is today.

For that, I’m grateful.

I’m especially thankful for the people who are here now—the ones continuing to show up, work hard, learn, improve, and help us build what Treegorilla is becoming.

And we aren’t finished building.

In fact, there are a few empty seats on this team right now.

So maybe this Labor Day isn’t just about recognizing the people who have helped us get here.

Maybe it’s also about finding a few of the people who will help us get where we’re going.

If you’re someone who takes pride in hard work, wants to learn a real craft, values safety and teamwork, and wants to become exceptionally good at what you do, I’d like to talk to you.

Experience is valuable. Character, work ethic, and the willingness to learn are even more important.

We’re building something here.

🍁 See maples turning yellow all over Central Arkansas right now? That’s not fall color. That’s stress.

Autumn Blaze maples, and similar red/silver maple hybrids, have become incredibly popular in new developments because they’re inexpensive, grow fast, and look great when they’re young.

But fast growth doesn’t always equal a good long-term tree.

In our Central Arkansas soils and climate, we commonly see these trees struggle with girdling roots, poor structure, nutrient deficiencies, trunk damage, drought and heat stress, and premature decline.

And there’s another problem: people plant way too many of them.

Drive through some newer neighborhoods and nearly every tree along the street is the same species or cultivar. History has taught us what happens when we build an urban forest around one kind of tree. One serious pest or disease can change an entire neighborhood.

A tree shouldn’t just be selected because it grows fast and looks good for the first 10–15 years.

🌳 The goal is a tree that can still be providing shade, stormwater management, wildlife habitat, energy savings, and property value 50–100 years from now.

Plant the right tree in the right place.
Plant for diversity.
Plant for the next generation.

That’s stewardship.
