One important step is degumming—a process that removes natural binding materials from h**p bast fiber, helping make it softer, finer, and easier to spin into yarn. Chemical, enzymatic, biological, and mechanical methods can all be used, with the best process depending on the final product.

H**p fiber being used for paper could be a very big deal because the potential market is enormous. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the world produced approximately 423 million metric tons of paper and paperboard in 2024, compared with about 132 million metric tons of all textile fibers produced globally that year. Even capturing a very small percentage of the paper market could create tremendous new demand for industrial h**p fiber. The more large-volume applications we develop for h**p, the stronger the economics become for farmers, processors, and the entire h**p industry.

We’re excited to share this recent article about the Fiber King™ and our successful demonstration at Oregon State University’s Klamath Basin Research and Extension Center in Klamath Falls.
After years of development, it is incredibly rewarding to see the Fiber King™ successfully harvesting and green-decorticating h**p in a university research field.

The Fiber King™ is designed to harvest, decorticate, and separate h**p directly in the field—producing long bast fiber and clean h**p hurd in a single pass. Our goal has always been simple: make h**p more profitable for farmers while lowering the cost of h**p fiber and hurd for manufacturers.

We've just finished filming brand-new footage of the Fiber King™ harvesting h**p in the field, and we're excited to share one of the biggest advantages of green decortication—higher-quality bast fiber.
By processing the h**p immediately while it's still green, Fiber King™ helps preserve the natural integrity of the fiber, eliminates the need for retting, and produces long, clean fibers with excellent uniformity. That means less decomposition, no mold from retting, reduced discoloration, and fiber that's suitable for premium applications like textiles, composites, and many other industrial products.
One of our favorite facts: The bast fiber is as long as the h**p plant itself. Longer fibers offer greater versatility because they can always be shortened for specific applications—but once fiber has been shortened, it can never be made longer.
