This reform of h**p laws in New Zealand is an encouraging step forward and demonstrates growing recognition of h**p's economic and environmental potential. However, there is still more work to be done. H**p grain should be fully approved for use in animal feed, and regulations should clearly distinguish between industrial h**p grown for fiber and grain and h**p cultivated for medicinal or recreational purposes.
Clear, science-based regulations can help farmers, processors, and manufacturers unlock the full value of this versatile crop while supporting rural economies and sustainable industries.
What additional policy changes do you think are needed to help the h**p industry reach its full potential?
Despite the deregulation of cultivation, significant restrictions remain on what can be done with plant tops and roots.
