The ASP-1000 Automated Specimen Processor provides walk-away automated preparation of biological specimens for TEM (transmission electron microscopy) and SEM (scanning electron microscopy). Get to know the mPrep™ System — The Capsule-based System for Microscopy Specimen Preparation:

■ Highly flexible — benefits labs of any size
■ No need to change established protocols
■ Works with single specime

ns or dozens at-a-time

Two types of capsule:
■ mPrep/s™ capsules for fixation and embedding specimens
■ mPrep/g™ capsules for immunolabeling or staining and archiving TEM grids

Simple to use:
■ Processing takes place inside the labeled mPrep capsule attached to a micropipettor
■ A clean, efficient way to introduce reagents and rinses.
■ Fewer specimen “touches” required.
■ Better control of processing times when doing multiple specimens
■ Stack capsules or use multichannel pipettors for larger numbers of specimens

Sample tracking is easy & effective:
■ Labels are provided for each capsule
■ Choice of a barcode or human-readable identity
■ Less chance of losing, damaging or mixing up specimens
■ Documentation for GLP or CLIA compliance is effortless

Pays for itself:
■ Precise control of reagents.
■ Use less disposable labware
■ No embedding molds needed
■ Significant labor savings in both processing and documentation
■ Fewer expensive re-do’s are required

Leading microscopy labs are increasingly moving toward standardized workflows. Not just for efficiency—but for consistency, reproducibility, and confidence in results.

That’s part of what’s driving adoption of sample prep solutions like the mPrep ASP across research and clinical settings.

Take a look at what standardized workflows look like: https://microscopyinnovations.com/asp-1000-2/

Some workflow improvements are incremental. Others are transformational.

When specimen prep becomes faster, safer, AND more consistent & reproducible—as with the mPrep ASP—the impact is felt across the entire workflow.

What could your lab do with hours back each week?

More samples processed. More time for analysis. Less time spent on repetitive prep steps.

By reducing hands-on sample prep time for EM, systems like the mPrep ASP allow labs to reallocate effort toward higher-value work—analysis, interpretation, and discovery.

In many labs, EM results can depend heavily on who performs the prep. Differences in training, technique, and experience introduce variability that’s hard to control.

Standardized systems, like the mPrep ASP, help reduce that variability across users.

Safety is often thought of separately from workflow efficiency—but the two are closely connected.

When specimen prep workflows for electron microscopy are automated, such as with the mPrep ASP, they naturally reduce manual interaction with hazardous materials, introduce standardization and ensure consistency across samples and batches.

Better workflows create safer environments.

Handling toxic reagents is a requirement in many EM workflows. But reducing exposure doesn’t have to come at the expense of efficiency.

Thoughtful workflow design and reduced handling steps—enabled by the mPrep ASP—can improve both safety and consistency.

What does EM workflow transformation actually look like?
For many labs, it’s the shift from:
⚡Manual → Automated
✨Variable → Standardized
🚀Time-intensive → Efficient

When specimen preparation becomes more predictable, everything downstream improves—from imaging quality to turnaround time.

It’s not just a change in tools. It’s a change in how work gets done.

A sincere thank you to the Arizona Imaging & Microanalysis Society on their 2026 Annual Conference and pre-conference Histology Workshop at State University last week. We were delighted to be invited to speak about diagnostic electron microscopy at the workshop, where attendees could earn CEU's to maintain their HT/HTL certification through the National Society of Histotechnologists (NSH).

We appreciated the thoughtful discussions around how advances in fully automated EM specimen preparation are supporting both research and clinical workflows. It was a pleasure connecting with so many of you!

A big shout out to Page Baluch of and all the presenters!
