Another dryer vent system fixed the right way! 🔥

This customer’s existing dryer ductwork had several major problems. The entire run was semi-rigid ductwork with multiple unnecessary bends, along with an improperly installed inline booster fan that wasn’t even plugged in or operating.

When we opened the ductwork up, we found it heavily packed with lint. The restricted airflow was also contributing to condensation buildup inside the ductwork—to the point that water was actually dripping from the vent.

We removed the old ductwork and booster fan and replaced the entire run with smooth rigid metal ductwork, eliminating unnecessary bends and creating a much cleaner, more efficient path to the outside. We also finished it off with a new exterior vent cap.

The difference is night and day. 👌

This dryer vent had an old, deteriorating flex duct connected to an inline damper.

Inline dampers should never be installed in dryer vent ductwork. Over time, lint can build up around the damper and prevent it from operating properly—causing it to stick open or, even worse, stick closed and completely restrict the dryer exhaust.

My guess is that someone was having problems with the cheap aluminum exterior vent cap, which was packed with lint and no longer opening properly, so an inline damper was added somewhere along the way as a “fix.”

We removed the old flex duct and inline damper, replaced the ductwork, and installed a nice new metal exterior dryer vent cap.

Another thing worth pointing out with this installation: the dryer vent terminates right beside the furnace flue and faces the outdoor A/C unit.

Ideally, I’d like to see this vent relocated so the dryer exhaust is directed away from both. The furnace flue could potentially pull airborne lint toward the furnace, while the A/C condenser can pull lint into the coils, eventually restricting airflow and affecting performance.

Unfortunately, we see setups like this on a lot of homes. Dryer vent termination location is one of those details that can easily get overlooked during construction or installation—but where that vent exhausts can be just as important as how the ductwork is installed.

Had to drained close to 2 gallons of water out of this dryer vent due to years of condensation buildup caused by restricted airflow from lint buildup.

This vent was close to a 25-foot, essentially straight shot to the outside. Yes—even straight dryer vent ductwork can collect enough lint over time to restrict airflow and cause serious problems.

In this case, the trapped moisture eventually caused the ductwork to rust from the inside out, so we removed the old ductwork and replaced the entire run with new duct.

A straight run doesn’t mean it doesn’t need cleaned!

Also noticed an uncapped gas line behind the dryer. While the shutoff valve was turned off, the line itself had no cap or plug installed.

We installed a proper gas-rated plug as an added layer of protection in case the shutoff valve were to ever fail or accidentally get turned on—which can definitely happen.

It wasn’t the reason we were there, but when we see something that could become a safety issue, we’d rather address it.

15 feet of dryer vent ductwork completely packed with lint!

The heavy lint buildup was restricting airflow and trapping moisture inside the ductwork, causing the metal to rust from the inside out.

We removed the damaged ductwork and replaced it with new duct to restore proper airflow and give the dryer a safe, clean path to exhaust outside.

This is a great example of why regular dryer vent cleaning is important. Don’t wait until a clogged vent turns into a bigger repair!

The existing dryer duct was ran into the soffit but was never actually ducted to the exterior. We extended the ductwork and connected it to a new soffit vent cap.

Ideally, a dryer vent should never terminate through a soffit overhang, as the heat and moisture can be drawn back into the soffit. Unfortunately, this type of installation is fairly common in many homes and condos.
