Inside Foundations This Week

This week we spent time figuring out what our businesses were trying to tell us.

Not by guessing.

By looking at the numbers.

We worked through an Effective Hourly Rate exercise and the insights were immediate.

One business owner realized that the service producing his lowest effective hourly rate is also the easiest thing in his business to scale.

What looked like a weakness may actually be a major growth opportunity.

Another discovered that the work generating his highest effective hourly rate is also the work he genuinely enjoys most.

Meanwhile, a different part of his business consumes time, creates stress, and produces very little return.

The lesson wasn't "cut everything with a low EHR."

The lesson was awareness.

When you understand where your time, profit, energy, and fulfillment intersect, you can make intentional decisions instead of reactive ones.

That's what Foundations is really about.

Not just building a profitable business.

Building one that actually works for the owner.

- Don Drumm Studios

Akron artist and icon, Don Drumm recently celebrated his 91st birthday. Founded in 1960 and later expanded into a multi-building campus, the studio and gallery now showcase work from over 500 artists alongside Drumm’s own pieces, which are known for pioneering the use of cast aluminum and other industrial materials. The studio showcases handmade art across mediums like jewelry, sculpture, glass, and home décor, while also promoting events, classes, and new collections. It’s as both a working artistic space and a long-standing cultural landmark in Akron, reflecting Drumm’s influence as a nationally recognized sculptor and key figure in the local arts community.
