Ivanhoe Plaza began as a temporary experiment in placemaking. Today, it has the opportunity to become something lasting: a permanent, concrete public gathering space designed to serve the East Side for decades to come. This transformation will create an accessible, all-season civic plaza that supports neighborhood businesses, strengthens community identity, and anchors the district’s continued growth.

Vibrant public spaces are the connective tissue of modern cities: uniting people, reinforcing civic identity, and turning density into community. Ivanhoe Plaza delivers on this vision, positioning Milwaukee’s East Side alongside forward-thinking urban districts across North America that invest confidently in design, walkability, and civic life.

The redesigned plaza will include:
• A permanent concrete plaza surface
• Integrated seating and gathering areas
• Landscaping and shade elements
• Infrastructure to support performances and events
• Improved accessibility and pedestrian connectivity
• Flexible space for daily use and large-scale community programming

Be part of bringing Ivanhoe Plaza to life. From small, meaningful contributions to larger sponsorship opportunities, there are many ways to leave your mark on this future community space. Whether you choose to make a digital dedication or support a physical element of the plaza, your contribution helps shape a lasting place for connection on the East Side.

Exploring Black Cat Alley is now even more interactive! New mural plaques have been installed throughout the alley, making it easy to learn the name of each mural and the artist who created it. Simply scan the QR code on each plaque to visit the mural's page on the Black Cat Alley website, where you can dive deeper into the inspiration, story, and artist behind the work.

You'll also find a QR code linking directly to the Black Cat Alley support page. Every contribution helps support the preservation of existing murals, future public art projects, and the continued growth of this one-of-a-kind outdoor gallery.

Thanks for getting this shot of one of the new plaques!

Due to the forecasted thunderstorms and for the safety of our artists, makers, and shoppers, tomorrow's East Side Market has been postponed.

The market will now take place on Sunday, September 27, from 10 AM to 3 PM as part of Doors Open Mural Fest, giving vendors the opportunity to be part of a larger event with more hours, more foot traffic, and hopefully better weather.

We know these postponements have not been ideal, but due to the severity of recent storms, we want to be extra careful. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we work to find a date that is safe for our vendors and visitors.

If you already paid for the August market, you have two options: either receive a refund and sign up again for the September 27 market or transfer your existing booth payment to September 27.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact East Side BID Executive Director Ryan Laessig directly at [email protected].

We'll share additional details as we get closer to the market. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to see you at the East Side Market on September 27!

If your closet's been feeling a little too predictable...we've got plans for you. 🧢🔥

Hosted by Jungle Gems, Cream Fresh Vintage Fest returns to Ivanhoe Plaza on Saturday, August 22 from 11 AM to 5 PM with another stacked lineup of vintage vendors, streetwear, great music, and neighborhood favorites serving up food and drinks just steps away.

Come flip through the racks, find that piece nobody else has, catch up with friends, and spend the afternoon surrounded by murals, music, and some of the best people-watching on the East Side.

There's only two more Cream Fresh Fest dates left for the year, so don’t miss out. We'll see you there. 👍
