Dear Powernet Subscribers

On Saturday we had a power bump and the main system didn't go down but a UPS that supplies power to a switch did.

That switch was the connection for our main DNS (Domain Name Servers) which convert the name gcpower.net into the actual IP address for getting to our website and the online email server link at the website.

When the power bumped, I checked the main service and was able to see it working and was able to get to the Internet, Google and etc. So I thought that we had survived the power bump. But I didn't think about the DNS servers. And a few minutes later, Brian,, our tech told me, "Hey, we are getting some calls..."

So I went to town and found the UPS and turned it back on and everything started working correctly for getting to our website.

But...this morning I cannot get to our website from my house.

I have checked everything from my house to the downtown an I have checked the DNS servers and they are online and available and working so now it appears that we are good but our online website is offline for some reason.

I have sent an email to Tim in the office and he will be calling the website hosters to see what is going on.

MEANWHILE, for those of you who rely upon our website to get to the online mail server here is a ink which will take you directly to it.

CLICK on it and then enter your email address and your email password and you should be able o get to your online email using a web browser like Chrome, Edge or Firefox.

We just realized a server at our office still needs to get booted back up. Clint is on his way there right now. Should be 15-20 minutes, if that's the only issue.

Well, that was a bump...our power on Base flickered out for a brief moment and recovered. I am able to ping downtown, our equipment, and also Google, so we survived it

"The Sound of Their Voices"
by Tim, the Office Manager

This has been a difficult week for many of us. In the span of only a few days, three prominent voices left us - Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, and Peter Cullen. I'm not going to try to describe just what an impact these three legends had on us, many of us discovering them in our childhoods and growing up with them as mainstays of our pop culture world.

I'm not even going to ask a trivia question today. Instead, I'm going to share one piece of trivia about each of these legendary performers in celebration of their lives and work.

You may already know this, but Tim Curry was the original voice of the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. After recording four episodes, he had to leave the production after developing a severe case of bronchitis. Producers later commented on just how terrifying his performance was.

Dolly Parton preferred pie over cake for her birthday celebrations. Never a particularly big fan of cake, Dolly opted for pie whenever she could. Her favorite variety was chess pie, a very sweet custard pie popular in the south.

While many of us know Peter Cullen from his iconic performance as Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise, he also played another pop culture - staple the Predator. During the 1987 film, Peter Cullen provided the "voice" of the Predator. During recording, he strained his vocal cords so much that at one point, he actually coughed up blood.

So, no right or wrong answers this week, only sadness and information. Do you have a favorite memory or performance from any of the lost legends I mentioned? Not many people remember the game, but one of my favorite Tim Curry performances was as the titular character in Gabriel Knight. Sometimes I still quote, "Tell me, what do you know about ... voodoo?" Share your memories in the comments below.

"The Sound of Her Voice"
by Tim, the Office Manager

Today, I thought I would keep the Star Trek 60th anniversary celebration going. Many Star Trek actors made their mark on pop culture by playing some of the most iconic characters in history. Just off the top of my head, I can quote over a dozen truly iconic lines from Star Trek. But what about the actors who played largely silent roles?

Three of the best-known silent characters in Star Trek are Mr. Homn, played by Carel Struycken, Maihar'du, played by Tiny Ron, and everyone's favorite bar mascot, Morn, played by Mark Allen Shepherd.

While these performances were almost entirely silent, some of them weren't entirely. For today's trivia question, can you tell me which character had the most spoken dialogue across their Star Trek career?

A.) Carel Struycken
B.) Tiny Ron
C.) Mark Allen Shepherd
The answer is B, Tiny Ron. While the character Maihar'du was indeed silent, in the Deep Space Nine episode Prophet Motive, a speaking Maihar'du appears during Quark's vision when accessing the Orb of Wisdom.

So, did you get the right answer? Do you have a favorite minor recurring character in Star Trek? Aside from the more major recurring characters, my choice would probably be Captain Kurn, the brother of Worf, played by the excellent Tony Todd. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
