Colorado has officially unveiled North America’s largest wildlife overpass, built over one of its busiest interstate highways to help animals safely cross. The structure allows species like elk, deer, and bears to move across their natural migration routes without entering fast-moving traffic, marking a major step in reducing collisions and improving road safety.

For years, this highway stretch has been known for frequent wildlife collisions, often leading to injuries, fatalities, and major vehicle damage. The overpass provides a safe, elevated path that removes the need for animals to cross directly through traffic, significantly lowering risks for both wildlife and drivers.

Designed to blend into the natural environment, the bridge is covered with soil and native vegetation to encourage use by animals. Additional fencing helps guide wildlife toward the crossing, improving effectiveness. The project reflects a broader approach to infrastructure that supports ecosystems while maintaining safe and efficient transportation systems.
