It's not.

If you've ever bought a program, a planner, or a piece of software and never really opened it again, I want you to hear this. You're not lazy, and you're not undisciplined. That's what happens to anybody who's handed a ton of information without a clear first step.

You don't need more information. What you need is an order to take action in.

Confession time. I once bought a podcast course so I could start this very podcast, and then I didn't really do anything with it. The next time the same course was offered, I signed up again with a different email, so I literally paid for the same thing twice (accidentally) and still didn't do it for months. Then I found a better course, bought that one too, and finally did the thing. 😂

So if you have a login somewhere you haven't touched in a while, you're in good company.

When you build an org chart, you're building seats, not naming people. A seat is a job that needs to be done, and the person sitting in it right now is a separate thing.

Here's what that looks like at Cavalry Appliance Service. My daughter Logan joined us full time this year, and she holds three seats: bookkeeping assistant, office assistant, and marketing manager. I used to fill a couple of those seats myself before she came on, so what a relief. Some of our seats aren't filled by employees at all, but the people on our team delegate the tasks to outside vendors...like payroll (handled by Solid Rock Accounting) and accounts payable (handled by Emerald Coast Bookkeeping).

Once you see it that way, you realize a seat doesn't always mean a new hire. In the appliance world, we have a word for it when we fix something and the customer calls back because it's still not working. We call it a recall, and it means we have to go back out and fix it again (which is a big bummer because it costs us money and time!).

The same thing happens in business when you only work on the loudest problem.

You put out the fire, you feel like a hero for about a day, and then the next fire shows up, because the loudest problem is almost never the root problem.

The callback is a symptom, and if you only work on symptoms, you'll stay busy forever, and your business will look exactly the same a year from now.
