This year’s conference brings together planning and development professionals from across Louisiana to explore how communities can build resilience while preserving the unique cultural identities of their neighborhoods. Through conversations on community engagement, sustainable development, and long-term planning, the conference highlights the importance of creating places that honor their past while preparing for the future.

This one-day educational conference brings together local and national experts to discuss the care, preservation, and management of our urban tree canopy. Dana will share insights on urban forestry, sustainable landscape planning, and tree preservation, drawing on DBA’s work developing Jefferson Parish’s Urban Forest Master Plan in partnership with Friends of Jefferson the Beautiful.

Over the next 7 months, we’ll be hitting the field to inspect over 1,200 trees planted across New Orleans through the USDA Forestry Grant. After nonprofit partners have planted and cared for these trees for a year, we’ll evaluate each one for health, survival, structure, and establishment using ArcGIS Field Maps. Trees that pass inspection will officially be turned over to the City of New Orleans for long-term ownership and maintenance.

Every healthy tree is a step toward a stronger, more resilient, and more connected urban tree canopy!

We are proud to have contributed to the design of the G.I.F.T. (Green Infrastructure in Tremé) and Tremé Flow projects, two community-driven green infrastructure sites created to help address stormwater management and flooding in New Orleans.

Following a recent ribbon cutting ceremony, these spaces are now open to the public — demonstrating how thoughtful landscape design can transform infrastructure into meaningful, functional community spaces. Together, the projects capture and manage more than 60,000 gallons of stormwater during each storm event, while incorporating nature-based solutions including detention, bioretention cells, bioswales, and permeable pavement.

Reimagining 5th Street in Gretna as a corridor designed for people, not just vehicles.

As part of the revitalization project, we focused on creating a more pedestrian-centered experience through planted medians, safer crosswalks, improved sidewalks, on-street parking, intentional planting design, green infrastructure to better manage stormwater. Together, these improvements create a safer, more inviting, and more resilient 5th Street for the Gretna community.
