A vehicle that no longer runs can still have one useful job left.

In Detroit, old unused vehicles have been turned into simple sleeping spaces for people who do not have somewhere proper to stay. The inside can be cleared out, covered and arranged so a person has a place away from wind and rain for the night.

What I find interesting is that the main structure is already there.

You already have a roof.

You already have walls.

You already have a floor.

So instead of sending the whole vehicle straight to scrap, it can be reused as a small shelter.

For someone passing by, it may just look like an old vehicle parked somewhere. But for the person sleeping inside, it can mean not having to spend the night fully exposed outside.

I myself feel this kind of reuse makes more sense than simply throwing everything away. If something old can still give protection to someone, then maybe its life is not really over yet.
