Twenty-five years ago, our nation changed forever.
I remember September 11, 2001, like it was yesterday. I was sitting in my senior assembly at Churchland High School, celebrating the beginning of our senior year, when our principal announced that our country was under attack.
At first, everyone sat in stunned silence. Then fear began to spread. Living in a community with such a strong military presence, many students immediately worried about their parents and loved ones.
Soon afterward, I was called to the office. My father had come to pick me up and was prepared for us to leave town if necessary. I will never forget the fear in the eyes of my classmates and people throughout our community.
My heart still aches for every life lost and every family forever changed. Today, I join our nation in remembering the victims, honoring the courage of our first responders, and recognizing the resilience shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
We will never forget. 🇺🇸
