October is Fire Prevention Month, where we spend extra time to educate the next generation about fire safety.

Yesterday, our members had the opportunity to visit Unity East Elementary, assist with their fire drill, talk with Kindergarten and 1st grade students, and show them some of the equipment we use every day.

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation changed forever.

We pause to remember the thousands of innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the families whose worlds were forever changed that morning.

We also honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and countless others who ran toward danger when others were running away. Their courage, selflessness, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

May we always remember those we lost and honor those who answered the call.

Saturday, members of the Philo Fire Department had the opportunity to join the Tolono Fire Protection District for live-fire training at the Illinois Fire Service Institute.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to train alongside our mutual-aid partners and continue building the skills and teamwork needed to better serve our communities.

Philo Fire was proud to assist Homer Fire Protection District and our fellow mutual aid agencies at this afternoon’s barn fire.

Tender 1767 responded to assist with water supply operations.

Strong mutual aid is essential to protecting our communities, and we’re always grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our neighboring departments.

Over the past weeks, members of the Philo Fire Protection District successfully completed a 40-hour Grain Bin Rescue Operations course hosted here in Philo.

Nine of our firefighters dedicated multiple days to this specialized training, furthering their knowledge and skills to better serve our community and provide assistance to neighboring departments through our mutual aid system. Training like this ensures our personnel are prepared to respond safely and effectively to complex agricultural emergencies.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Illinois Fire Service Institute for the outstanding instructors
