AI is smart. But it is not flawless.

At a college graduation, a new AI system reportedly missed and misread student names during the ceremony.

Not exactly the kind of moment you want technology to get wrong.

The school had to switch back to a human to make it right.

Here is the bigger takeaway for businesses:

AI can absolutely help.
But AI still makes mistakes.
It still misses context.
And it still needs human review.

That matters if you are using AI for customer communication, reporting, workflows, or decision-making.

The problem is not using AI.
The problem is trusting it too much without oversight.

Use AI as a tool, not as autopilot.

A trusted tool became the weak spot.

GitHub, a cloud-based platform and hosting service, confirmed a breach after a poisoned VS Code extension compromised an employee device and gave attackers access to internal database.

GitHub says there is no evidence customer database was affected.

But here is the part every business should pay attention to:

Cyber risk does not always start with a firewall failure.
Sometimes it starts with a trusted app, browser extension, or vendor.

That is why endpoint protection, access controls, and third-party risk management matter so much.

The first chatbot was built in 1966.

Long before ChatGPT, Siri, or Alexa, there was ELIZA.

ELIZA was designed to respond like a therapist. No modern AI. No massive data models. Just simple pattern matching that still made people feel like they were having a real conversation.

That is what makes it so interesting.

Even the earliest versions of AI showed how quickly people can connect with technology that feels human.

AI may feel new, but the idea has been around for decades. What has changed is the speed, scale, and impact.

Thursday Reality Check: If your systems went down right now, what breaks first?

Most businesses do not think about that until they have to.

Maybe it is an email.
Maybe payroll.
Maybe access to customer files.
Maybe your whole organization stops for the day.

That is the part people miss.

Cybersecurity is not only about blocking threats. It is about keeping your business moving when technology problems hit.

And this is not just a big company issue. Every business depends on systems, logins, and data now.

So here is the question for today:

What would your business lose access to first?

If the Canvas incident reminds us of anything, it is this: schools are still a target.

Education runs on connected systems. Learning platforms, staff accounts, student records, and everyday access all depend on security working behind the scenes.

When one piece is exposed, the impact can spread fast.

At One Step Secure IT, we help education organizations take a more proactive approach to cybersecurity with practical support that helps reduce risk before it becomes a bigger problem.

If your school, college, or education team wants a clearer picture of where you stand, we offer a free cybersecurity risk assessment.

Phishing is not slowing down. It is scaling.

Microsoft reported a campaign that targeted 35,000 users across 13,000 organizations in 26 countries.

That is a reminder that phishing is still one of the easiest ways into a business.

If your team depends on email, now is a good time to review training, MFA, and account security.

AI is doing a lot more than people think.

Most people hear AI and think about chatbots. But AI is also helping with music videos, content creation, editing, design, security, automation, and a whole lot more.

This was a fun read on AI music video generators:

It is a good reminder that AI is not just for tech companies. Businesses of all sizes are finding new ways to save time, create faster, and work smarter.

The real opportunity is learning where AI fits into your business without overcomplicating it.

What is the coolest use of AI you have seen so far?

Haven’t watched the new episode of One Step Beyond Cyber yet?

Here's a reminder!

This clip gets right to the heart of what helps businesses grow.

You can talk about tools, systems, and strategy all day, but real strength still comes back to three things: relationships, values, and core principles.

If your business depends on people serving people, this conversation matters.

Customer trust is not something you can fake. You have to build it. And that starts with the people inside your business first.

If you're trying to grow and scale your business, this episode is for you.

AI is not just changing business. It is changing cybersecurity too.

This video segment covers concerns around a new AI model with the potential to identify software vulnerabilities on its own. That could help defenders, but it also raises real questions about how fast threats are evolving.

Bottom line: smarter tools mean businesses need smarter protection.
