🇮🇹 100 YEARS OF SAN GENNARO! 🇮🇹

This year marks the 100th Annual Feast of San Gennaro in New York City’s Little Italy — and I’m excited to take you on a journey through the fascinating story behind this beloved tradition!

But there’s so much more to San Gennaro than zeppole, cannoli and the famous street festival! 🍋🇮🇹

In my upcoming talk at a local NY Italian American Heritage Club , we’ll travel back to the early 1900s and explore:

Why so many immigrants from Naples and Southern Italy came to New York

What life was like for Italian immigrants living around Mulberry Street

The discrimination and prejudice Italian immigrants faced — and how they built their own communities and institutions

The story of San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples, and why his devotion was so important to Neapolitan immigrants

The fascinating history of the Shrine Church of the Most Precious Blood

How a small one-day religious celebration that began in 1926 grew into one of New York City’s most famous cultural festivals

The traditions, music, food, procession and entertainment that make the Feast so special today

And, of course, what you can expect at the 2026 Centennial Celebration!

🇮🇹 100 years. One neighborhood. Generations of stories.

Come discover how the faith and traditions carried across the Atlantic by Italian immigrants became an enduring part of the cultural fabric of New York City.

Viva San Gennaro! 🇮🇹

I hope you’ll join me (or host me at your club) for this fascinating look at faith, immigration, resilience, family, culture and the making of Little Italy.
