Are you planning to join us for the "Walk and Roll" Parade on Saturday, July 4, during the America 250 - West Plains event? Let us know in comments if you're planning to be in it, and please share this post!
REMINDER OF DETAILS: The America 250 event will be on the campus of Missouri State University–WP (Bell Tower area) on July 4th, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
There are other scheduled activities, but parade lineup begins at 11 a.m. on Franklin near Broadway. Parade starts at 11:30 a.m. The route is around one city block, intentionally short and easy for all ages and abilities.
Decorated bicycles, wagons, tricycles, scooters, strollers, wheelchairs, pull carts, and walking groups are all welcome. Patriotic and America 250 themes encouraged — handmade decorations especially welcome.
A few quick rules:
⭐ Non-motorized entries only (mobility devices allowed)
⭐ Family-friendly entries only
⭐ Children should be supervised
⭐ No fireworks or unsafe props
⭐ No candy throwing (candy handouts welcome; no other handouts allowed)
⭐ Pets must be leashed and under control
Families, churches, civic groups, veterans groups, scout troops, sports teams, and individuals — come help us create a classic small-town Fourth of July!
EDIT/UPDATE: To be as fair and consistent as possible for everyone, we have updated the participation guidelines.
The parade was originally envisioned as a family-focused event featuring kids on bikes, wagons, strollers, and other non-motorized entries. As we've continued to answer questions and refine the guidelines, participation has been opened to everyone, including political candidates.
To help keep the focus on the celebration and to minimize litter along the parade route, we are not allowing participants to hand out promotional items, including campaign materials. Candy may be handed out for those who choose.
