Pete has worked as an arborist in the Portland area since 1993, earning his ce

rtificate with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) in 1995. His wife and family spend as much free time playing in and among the trees as he does working on them.

$400 delivered and installed. Phyllostachys vivax, or Giant Timber Bamboo, is a large, fast-growing running bamboo known for its vigor, cold hardiness (to -5°F), and tall, strong culms (canes) that can reach 40-70 feet in height. It’s used for screens, hedges, and timber, with edible shoots and a tropical look, but its aggressive running nature requires a rhizome barrier to control spread. Varieties like ‘Aureocaulis’ feature striking golden canes with green stripes.
