During wildfire deployments, crews work long hours, navigate rapidly changing fire conditions, and help protect homes and communities threatened by wildfire.

This wildfire season, approximately 40 of our members participated in 12 deployments to fires across the region. From frontline firefighting and water supply operations to strike team leadership and incident management, our members filled critical roles wherever they were needed.

Each deployment brings new challenges and valuable experience that strengthens our crews' ability to respond to emergencies here at home.

UPDATE 10/20 2:43 PM - Puget Sound Energy has successfully clamped the damaged natural gas line and stopped the leak.

The shelter-in-place advisory for residents in the surrounding three blocks has been lifted, and emergency crews are beginning to clear the scene.

Thank you to residents for their patience and cooperation while crews worked to safely resolve the incident.

⚠️ Happening Now - Natural Gas Leak in Orting

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue crews are on scene of a natural gas leak near Kansas St SW and Eldredge Ave SW in Orting.

The scene is secure, and Puget Sound Energy is on site assessing damage to a 2.5-inch natural gas line.

As a precaution, residents within the three surrounding blocks are being asked to shelter in place while crews work to resolve the situation.

If you are in the affected area (see red shaded area on the map):
- Remain indoors and keep doors and windows closed.
- Turn off heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems if safe to do so.
- Avoid smoking, open flames, or operating electrical switches.
- Follow instructions from emergency personnel.

There is no need for residents outside the affected area to take additional precautions at this time.

Did you know firefighters spend 24 hours at a time at the fire station? 🚒

For our firefighters, the station is more than just a workplace. It's their home away from home.

Between emergency calls, crews spend their shifts training, checking equipment, maintaining apparatus, preparing meals, and completing station duties. They also spend time together, building the relationships and teamwork that are essential when responding to emergencies.

During overnight hours, firefighters have the opportunity to rest at the station, but they remain ready to respond at a moment's notice, whether they're sitting down for a meal or sleeping when the alarm sounds.

It's all part of a 24-hour shift, balancing the daily responsibilities of station life with being ready to serve our community whenever they're needed.

When someone experiences a cardiac emergency, every second matters. Our paramedics need the right information and equipment to make critical decisions, often before a patient ever reaches the hospital.

In August, we equipped every medic unit with new Stryker LIFEPAK 35 cardiac monitors and defibrillators, giving our crews advanced tools to assess and treat patients during cardiac emergencies.

These monitors allow paramedics to track changes in a patient's heart activity in real time, helping them make informed treatment decisions as a patient's condition changes. During cardiac arrest responses, the monitors also help crews keep track of medications and treatment times, allowing them to focus on providing lifesaving care.

With approximately 80% of our emergency responses involving EMS, investing in advanced medical equipment is an important part of how we continue improving the care we provide. Equipping every medic unit with this technology helps our paramedics deliver timely, effective care to the more than 328,000 people who rely on us across 178 square miles.

Last night at approximately 10:42 PM, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue crews responded to a vehicle fire near 5th St NW and West Stewart in Puyallup.

When crews arrived, they found a vehicle that had crashed into a tree and caught fire. Two bystanders had already helped pull the driver, the vehicle's only occupant, to safety before emergency crews arrived.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, evaluated the driver, and transported her to the hospital.

We want to recognize the two bystanders who stepped in to help someone in a dangerous situation. Their quick actions helped get the driver out of the burning vehicle before firefighters arrived.

The scene was turned over to the Puyallup Police Department for investigation.

The Great ShakeOut is almost here!

Today (10/15), at 10:15 AM, join millions worldwide for the largest earthquake drill of the year.

Earthquakes can happen anytime and almost anywhere. Many earthquake-related injuries are caused by falling or flying objects, so knowing what to do can make a difference.

Take a few minutes to practice Drop, Cover, and Hold On with your family and friends.

⬇️ DROP where you are, onto your hands and knees.
🛡️ COVER your head and neck with one arm and hand. If possible, crawl underneath a sturdy table or desk for protection.
✅ HOLD ON to your shelter with one hand while keeping your head and neck covered with the other. Stay in place until the shaking stops.

A little practice today can help you feel more prepared when an earthquake happens.

As commercial and industrial development continues to grow throughout our fire district, our firefighters are preparing for the unique challenges that come with responding to emergencies in these larger buildings.

In a large commercial building, reaching a fire can mean stretching hundreds of feet of hose, navigating unfamiliar layouts, and moving equipment over much greater distances than in a typical home.

Our crews recently had the opportunity to train inside an IKEA warehouse, practicing the skills and tactics needed to respond safely and effectively in a commercial setting.

Training in these environments gives our firefighters valuable hands-on experience and helps them prepare for the types of emergencies they may encounter as our community continues to grow.

Last night around 7:38 PM, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue crews responded to a residential structure fire in the 19400 block of 79th Ave Ct E in the Spanaway area.

When firefighters arrived, they found an active fire in the attached garage of a two-story home. Crews quickly entered the garage, located burning contents, and extinguished the fire. During their work, firefighters discovered a smoldering couch with an extension cord nearby. The fire was brought under control by 8 PM.

Two occupants were confirmed to be outside the home, and a total of 13 emergency apparatus responded. The cause remains under investigation by the Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office.

As we head into the colder months, it’s a good time to check for electrical hazards around your home. Use extension cords only temporarily, avoid overloading outlets, and always plug space heaters directly into wall outlets. A few simple precautions can help reduce the risk of a fire.
