Good morning from the Pacific Northwest — where the sun is stretching across the sky like it’s been waiting all night to greet us. There’s that light chill in the air, just enough to make you pull your sweater a little closer, but not enough to keep you inside. The kind of autumn morning that feels fresh, bright, and full of possibility.

The trees are starting to show off, the air smells clean, and everything feels just a little more golden. It’s a good day to breathe deeply, move gently, and let the season wrap around you.

As a writer, creating new work in my home feels like sitting in the middle of a living, breathing story. Every corner holds something that was placed in my hands with love — pieces passed down from dear friends, treasured family members, and those who are no longer here but whose presence lingers in the objects they once held. These things aren’t just décor; they’re reminders of the people who shaped me, believed in me, and left their warmth behind in the form of small, meaningful gifts.

I love adding new pieces to this collection, letting each one join the quiet chorus of memories already surrounding me. Recently, my daughter brought home a crystal replica of the Sydney Opera House from her trip to Australia. It’s delicate, luminous, and full of her thoughtfulness — a symbol of her adventures, her independence, and the way she still carries me with her even as she builds her own life across the world.

And as I place it among the others, I’m reminded that my home isn’t just filled with things — it’s filled with love that keeps arriving, keeps expanding, keeps finding me in new forms. These pieces become anchors, gentle reminders that no matter how far life stretches, I am held by the people who know me best and love me most.

There’s something special about gathering for simple, no‑pressure activities — the kind where you can just show up, settle in, and let the moment carry you. No agenda. No deadlines. Just music playing softly in the background, occasional conversation drifting in and out, and the gentle permission to tune out everything else for a while.

I had the chance to do exactly that recently: relaxing, unwinding, and painting pumpkins with others. It was such a small thing on the surface, but it held a quiet kind of magic. Everyone received pumpkins of different shapes and sizes — tall ones, round ones, lopsided ones — and the paint colors spread across the table like a little rainbow waiting to be chosen. And just like writers, each person created whatever was on their heart. No two pumpkins looked alike, because no two people bring the same story, the same mood, or the same spark to the moment.

That’s the beauty of fun, shared activities. They remind us that creativity doesn’t have to be complicated. Presence doesn’t have to be earned. Joy doesn’t have to be loud. Sometimes it’s as simple as dipping a brush into paint, humming along to a song you love, and letting yourself be part of a room full of people who are also choosing to slow down.

And when everyone is done — when the pumpkins are lined up, each one its own little masterpiece — you get to share. Not in a performative way, but in that soft, genuine way where you hold up what you made and someone smiles because they see you in it.

Moments like that matter. They give us space to breathe, to connect, and to remember that life feels fuller when we make time for simple joy. Whether it’s painting pumpkins, listening to music together, or just sitting side by side in easy conversation, these small creative pauses help us stay present with ourselves and with each other.

And honestly — that’s the kind of beauty worth sharing.

There’s something irresistible about a story that begins with a lost girl, a grocery store, and a whole adventure waiting between the aisles. That’s exactly what makes Fuzzy Ears and the Grocery Store Adventure so charming. One moment she’s just wandering past the apples, and the next she’s discovering courage she didn’t know she had.

And tucked inside all that bravery is a special name—one whispered with hope, one that might just save the day when things feel too big and too loud. Watching her tiny ears perk up at the sound of it is the sweetest reminder that sometimes all we need is someone calling us home.

If you love stories filled with heart, wonder, and a dash of everyday magic, Fuzzy Ears brings it all together in the most delightful way. It’s a gentle adventure that makes you smile, root for her, and remember that even the smallest explorers can find their way.
