Designs for Learning Designs for Learning provides customized support services to charter schools.

Since 1995, Designs for Learning (DL) has founded or co-founded more than a dozen charter schools in Minnesota. Several schools are built around the Community Learning Center (CLC) model; in other cases school founders approach us for assistance with ideas they have for new programs. We bring a broad range of experience to the complex and inter-related tasks of founding, developing, managing and g

rowing self-sufficient charter schools. We are most effective serving clients with whom we have longer term, mutually beneficial relationships, that allow us to continuously tailor integrated services that meet their changing needs. We are unique -- we can cost-effectively carry out these services for our clients, but we also can train and equip client staff to perform these tasks. Designs for Learning's mission is to assist charter schools in all stages of development and operation. We realize that the needs for developers differ greatly from the needs of a mature, operating charter school. Customized consulting and training are available on request; the following are standard services we currently offer clients:

Wayne Jennings passed away on May 5th at age 95. He was the co-founder of Designs for Learning who helped start Jennings Community School, founder of Open World Learning Community School in St. Paul, and -- and a true leader in the field of education.

Dr. Wayne Jennings, often cited as one of Minnesota’s most influential public school educators in the last 50 years, died at home in Roseville on May 5. He had a private internment. Jennings was 95. As we recognize School Social Work Week, I want to take a moment to highlight the critical role that school social workers play within our school communities and to invite you to join me in expressing appreciation for their work.

School social workers operate at the intersection of mental health, academic success, family engagement, and systems-level support. Each day they engage in complex problem-solving, crisis response, individual and group counseling, MTSS implementation, special education collaboration, and culturally responsive family outreach. Their work often happens quietly and behind the scenes, yet its impact is visible in improved student regulation, stronger peer relationships, increased engagement, and enhanced staff support.

I’m happy to share that Pamela Meade will be serving as the Interim Executive Director at Center for Purposeful Leadership (CPL)! We are excited about the opportunity for Pamela to continue her leadership at Designs for Learning while also supporting CPL. Pamela brings over 25 years of experience leading teams, overseeing operations, driving strategic initiatives, and developing systems and procedures. She will help build internal capacity and self-sufficiency to set the stage for a new Executive Director of CPL who will be hired in the coming months.
