But, when you’re learning about how behavioral science gets applied in healthcare settings with Mary Lewis Ph.D., BCBA-D, not only do you get expert instruction from a post-doctoral fellow, but memes, sparkles, and her contagious passion for the space.

If you’re an OBM Explorer subscriber, you’re automatically enrolled! If not, grab your seat for this Thursday at 4:00 pm MT/ 6:00 pm ET!

Link in Bio, or comment “healthcare” and I’ll DM you the link!

Every time I act like a one trick pony, guess what I get treated like? 🤠

Get out of your comfort zone and get your butt to a non-ABA conference.

There is no better way to:
1. Get massed practice on an elevator pitch. You get to see what resonates, what falls flat, and dial it in fast.

2. Catch a culture vibe. Are these people you’d want to work with?

3. Understand their pain points. What problems can you help solve with your skills?

4. Identify companies you may want to work for, you may not know about otherwise.

Tech conferences are crazy (and honestly a little dysregulating) but I always get so much out of them, and I’m talking about more than just the oysters.

Attention behavior analysts!

The next 30 days here at Moralis Machina are packed to the brim with some killer courses:

This week Etana Berger Ph.D., BCBA-D, LBA, VSA-DT is kicking off our new Applied Animal Behavior learning path with an intro course that includes a deep dive on shaping animal behavior.

Next up Mary Lewis Ph.D., BCBA-D is going to take us on a journey, looking at how we can apply behavioral science in the healthcare setting. Expect sparkles and memes.

Christopher Gates, PMP, BCBA is launching our next cohort of our PMP prep course that’s sold out every time. This one is about to do the same, so grab your spot soon!

And finally, I’m launching our next Lean Six Sigma White Belt for BCBAs cohort. This is the last cohort this year that will be eligible for our Yellow Belt launching in August.

Hope to see you there!

OF COURSE there are good companies.

THANK GOODNESS there are excellent people managers.

OBVIOUSLY some people can be happy in clinical roles.

But, that’s not my experience. It’s not what I hear people talking about. And the data show it isn’t just some people with bad attitudes and unreasonable expectations.

It’s a structural problem in our field and people are running away screaming.

Burnout. Turnover. Feeling like a cog in a machine. No upward mobility. We gotta do better than that.

Let me say the quiet part out loud: I’m divisive.

Behavior analysts either love me or hate me, and there isn’t much in between.

Obviously, I wish everyone thought I was fabulous. That said, I am actively trying to not just upset the apple cart, but flip it.

It’s hard to make everyone happy when I have a very clear POV, and am willing to say the hard s**t out loud.

I love our science, but it has huge problems. 82% of behavior analysts work in ASD, and a big proportion of that feel stuck. I talk to them every day.

I would rather help someone leave ASD and find something that makes them happy than leave people rotting and feeling stuck. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Love animals AND behavior analysis?

Then you’re going to LOVE this CEU!

I’m so excited to announce that we are adding an Applied Animal Behavior learning path to our offerings, thanks to the wonderfully talented and multi-passionate Etana Berger Ph.D., BCBA-D, LBA, VSA-DT. First up is “Intro to Applied Animal Behavior” on May 14.

Spots are limited so make sure to grab your seat! We know this one is going to sell out.

Don’t drop thousands of dollars into training for something you’ve had limited to no exposure in and just hope you like it.

Our Intro to… courses give behavior analysts a peak inside different practice areas to see what piques their interest.

Next up: Intro to Applied Animal Behavior on 5/14!

I started my career like most BCBAs…

Working with autistic kiddos.

S, how did I get here? Well, here are some highlights, but I also:

Helped to pass the Utah ABA insurance mandate
Worked adult TBI rehab
Developed a specialty in feeding AND in Rett Syndrome care
Have done OBM research in practice
Became a process improvement expert

Less horn tooting, and more a reminder that you can reinvent yourself as many times as you damn well please. So get after it.
