The Equipo vine is getting close.

After following this Cabernet Sauvignon vine throughout the growing season, we’ve reached another milestone: full veraison. The clusters are now completely colored, showing off that beautiful dark plum hue.

With temperatures reaching 110°F in the valley today, these vines are putting in the final stretch. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be sampling grapes regularly, watching the sugar and acid levels—but, most importantly, tasting for flavor.

Because while the numbers tell us a lot, flavor tells us when the grapes are truly ready.

If everything continues looking this good, we expect to start harvesting these grapes starting mid next week. We’ll be back with another Equipo update when harvest arrives.

As summer draws to a close, we find ourselves lingering over the moments that made it memorable.

This season, our Sunset Tastings offered a chance to slow down, share a glass, and watch the evening light settle across the vines of Happy Canyon.

There is something timeless about wine at golden hour—good company, beautiful surroundings, and nowhere else you need to be.

Harvest is officially underway at Grassini Family Vineyards! Our CEO Katie Grassini walks us through the status of our 20th harvest heading into Labor Day weekend 🍇

We’ve brought in all 30 tons of our Sauvignon Blanc, and if you could step into the winery right now, you’d understand why this is one of our favorite times of year. The aromas are incredible, and the fruit is already tasting amazing.

We’ve also welcomed the first 10% of our Merlot, with the rest of the reds soon to follow. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be out sampling grapes, watching the vines, and bringing in the fruit as it reaches its peak.

The cellar is filling, the winery smells incredible, and the 20th vintage is taking shape.

Here’s to our 20th harvest season here in Happy Canyon—and everything still to come. 🥂

International Cabernet Day: Part Two 🍷

So, what makes a great Cabernet?

It's a combination of place, patience, and precision. From the vineyard, where we carefully tend each block throughout the growing season, to the cellar, where the fruit is guided through fermentation and aging, every decision shapes what ultimately ends up in the glass.

The reward is Cabernet with depth and structure—layers of dark fruit, spice, and refined tannins that continue to evolve with time.

This International Cabernet Day, we're celebrating not just Cabernet Sauvignon, but the people, vineyard, and craftsmanship behind every bottle.

Here's to Cabernet. And to the many years we've spent learning how to let this remarkable grape speak for itself. 🍷

Apparently, even Cabernet gets two celebrations. Depending on who you ask, International Cabernet Day is observed on two different dates—August 30 and the Thursday before Labor Day. So rather than choose, we're celebrating both.

For Part One, we're starting with the grape itself—and why Cabernet Sauvignon has become such an important part of the Grassini story.

Here in Santa Ynez, warm days, cool evenings, rocky soils, and long growing seasons create an ideal environment for Cabernet Sauvignon to thrive. It's a varietal that rewards patience and careful farming, and one that has become central to the character of our estate.

The arrival of the season's first fruit is always exciting, but this year feels especially meaningful as we open our 20th harvest at Grassini Family Vineyards.

For two decades, each vintage has captured a distinct chapter in our estate's story—shaped by the land, the season, and the people who bring it to life.

To mark this milestone, our family and production team gathered around the first bin of Sauvignon Blanc last week for our annual "Blessing of the Grapes". This cherished tradition gives us a chance to pause, raise a glass, and recognize the hands and years of dedication that brought us here.
