We’ve checked in again on Tracy Ruge-Folks and her exotic art that evokes the mystery and allure of Tiki – beautiful black velvet paintings.

“Tonga” Tim Harnett goes down Tiki cocktails’ less-taken road as he looks at Wh***ey in Tiki.

We recently attended Florida’s newest Tiki event, Tiki Fever, held at the Golden Host Resort in Sarasota. Not only was the event an intimate gathering of Tikiphiles, Golden Host is also the home to one of the US’s oldest Tiki bars, the Bahi Hut. We look at both bar and event in a feature article penned by Ken Holewczynski.

While Tiki Lindy always creates some of the best food recipes that complement any Tiki soirée, with exotic dishes and cocktails, this time she gives us a few new recipes that use spirits within main dishes and desserts.

We’ve revamped our music department Moving in Stereo so we can feature more artists along with our regular album reviews. To kick this off, we have an interview by Dave Bagdade with The Other Timelines. Anyone familiar with the surf punk phenomenon Man or Astro-Man? will be familiar with The Other Timelines’ lead guitarist Jonny Browning. Browning, as Victor Vector in MoAM, delivers a fresh take on intro-rock with surf undertones with The Other Timelines.

Here's a toast to Exotica Moderne isssue No. 33 with one of the featured cocktails, Loko Nui by Adam Coolong of Minneapolis. Did you know: There are now more issues of the magazine from House of Tabu, which has published regularly for the past eight years, than its two predecessors combined? Tiki Magazine (2005-2013) and Tiki Magazine + More (2014-2017) released a total of 32 issues over 12 years. Congrats to Ken Holewczynski and his entire staff!

Enter the Dusky Realm - If You Dare!

Grab the debut LP from Thee Leviathans, the new project from Patrick O’Conner of The Madiera fame!

Not so much a band as a force of nature, Thee Leviathans appear without warning, strike hard, then fade back into the night. Powerfully melodic and cinematic instrumental music has long been the cornerstone of guitarist Patrick O’Connor’s reputation in the surf music community, an approach built on high-energy performances and high-melody compositions.

For two decades, he has provided one half of The Madeira's twin guitar attack with Ivan Pongracic of the Space Cossacks, while contributing some of the band's most beloved anthems. His song “Undercurrents” even inspired the creation of a Madeira-themed tribute band in Romania. The Madeira produced four award-winning studio albums and two live albums, including “Center of the Surf,” engineered by the legendary Mark Linett of Beach Boys fame.
