🏥 DAY 3 OF 83: WHAT IS MEDICARE PART A?

Most people know Medicare Part A as “hospital insurance”, but that doesn’t mean every hospital expense is completely covered.

Medicare Part A generally helps cover:

✅ Inpatient hospital care
✅ Skilled nursing facility care following a qualifying hospital stay
✅ Hospice care
✅ Certain home health care services

Most people qualify for premium free Part A because they or their spouse paid Medicare taxes long enough while working.

But here’s something that surprises a lot of people: In 2026, Medicare Part A has a $1,736 deductible per benefit period, not necessarily once per calendar year. That means it’s possible to pay the Part A deductible more than once in the same year.

That distinction matters when you’re comparing Original Medicare, Medicare Supplement plans, and Medicare Advantage plans.

Follow along as we break Medicare down into simple, understandable pieces, one day at a time.

09/17/2026

🚨 MEDICARE 2027: Yep… more changes are coming.

A couple quick things you need to know:

💊 Part D prescription coverage: The standard maximum deductible increases from 💲615 in 2026 to 💲700 in 2027, and the annual out-of-pocket threshold for covered Part D drugs increases from 💲2,100 to 💲2,400. Remember, individual plans can have a lower deductible.

🏥 Medicare Advantage: This is where we’re watching VERY closely. Lee Health is leaving UnitedHealthcare’s network for affected Medicare Advantage plans beginning January 1, 2027. NCH has announced HealthSpring/Cigna and Wellcare Medicare Advantage will be out-of-network beginning January 1. And Humana expects its 2027 plan exits nationally to affect approximately 600,000 members.

Does that mean you should panic? NO.

Does it mean 2027 is a year to actually review the mail your Medicare plan sends you instead of tossing it on the counter? YES. 😂

Doctors. Specialists. Hospitals. Prescriptions. Networks. Costs. It all matters.

Tom and I are already watching what’s coming down the pipe in Florida and Minnesota so our clients don’t have to figure all of this out alone. 🌴

Don’t panic. Don’t blindly renew. Let’s review.

🚨 DAY 1 OF 83: LET’S LEARN SOME MEDICARE!

There are officially 83 days until Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period ends on December 7. Over the next 83 days, I’m going to share one Medicare fact, tip or important piece of information every day.

We’ll start with the basics:

✅ What is Medicare Part A?
✅ What does Medicare Part B cover?
✅ What is Medicare Part D?

Then we’ll dig a little deeper into topics like:

• Medicare Advantage vs. Medicare Supplement plans
• Prescription drug coverage
• Provider networks
• Enrollment periods and late-enrollment penalties
• Why higher-income earners may pay more for Medicare Parts B and D
• What changes you should review for 2027

Medicare can feel complicated, but it becomes much easier when we break it down one piece at a time.

Follow along, share these videos with someone approaching Medicare, and send me the questions you want answered during the series.

We’ve got 83 days. Let’s learn some Medicare!

🚨 HUMANA MEDICARE ADVANTAGE MEMBERS | THIS ONE IS WORTH PAYING ATTENTION TO.

Humana has confirmed it will discontinue select Medicare Advantage plans for 2027, affecting approximately 600,000 members nationwide.

Does that mean 600,000 people in Florida or Minnesota? No. Does it mean your Humana plan is definitely going away? Also no.

But if you have Humana Medicare Advantage, this is one year you absolutely want to OPEN. YOUR. MAIL. 📬

If your plan is affected, you should receive a non-renewal notice explaining what’s happening. And please remember: your Medicare isn’t disappearing. You will have options.

This is exactly why Tom and I are already watching the 2027 changes in Florida and Minnesota. Between Humana’s announcement, the Lee Health + UnitedHealthcare situation, NCH’s Medicare Advantage network changes and everything else developing for 2027… there is a LOT for Medicare beneficiaries to keep track of.

You don’t have to become a Medicare expert just because Medicare got complicated. That’s our job. 🌴

We’ll help you look at your doctors, specialists, hospitals, prescriptions and available coverage so you can understand what actually makes sense for you.

📬 Watch your mail.
❤️ Don’t panic.
👀 Don’t ignore it.

If you receive a Humana non-renewal notice, or you’re simply wondering what all these 2027 changes could mean for you, reach out.

Day 7 of our 7-day long-term care planning series, and today we’re addressing one of the most common assumptions:
“My long-term care plan is that the government will take care of me.”

In our last video, we discussed what it can look like when children or other family members become the plan. But what happens when family cannot provide the care and there aren’t enough assets available to pay for it?

Medicare generally does not cover ongoing custodial long-term care. Medicaid may help eligible individuals pay for care, but relying on it can mean meeting strict financial requirements and having fewer choices about your caregivers, facilities, and where your care takes place.

Planning ahead may give you more options.  Whether that means using your own assets, long-term care insurance, life insurance with care benefits, or an annuity designed to help fund future care.

That’s the message behind this entire series: long-term care planning isn’t only about who pays the bill. It’s about protecting your family, preserving your choices, and having more control over how and where you receive care.

If this series made you realize that your current plan may not be much of a plan, let’s talk. Contact us by phone, text, or direct message to schedule a complimentary consultation.

🚨 ANOTHER BIG MEDICARE SHAKEUP IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.

First, Lee Health + UnitedHealthcare. Now, NCH + HealthSpring and Wellcare.

If one of these health systems or Medicare Advantage plans is part of your healthcare, DON’T PANIC. But don’t ignore this either.

Beginning January 1, 2027, major provider-network changes are expected to affect Medicare beneficiaries across Naples, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Estero and Southwest Florida.

As a nurse, this is where I want you looking beyond the insurance card. 🩺

Your doctors. Your specialists. Your hospital. Your prescriptions. Your continuity of care.

There are still great options available. Our job is to help you understand them and check the pieces that matter to YOUR healthcare before you make a decision.

🌴 Don’t panic. We’ve got you.

🚨 ANOTHER major Medicare change is coming to Southwest Florida.

This time, it’s Collier County.

Beginning January 1, 2027, NCH has announced changes involving Wellcare and Cigna/HealthSpring Medicare Advantage plans.

And coming on the heels of the Lee Health + UnitedHealthcare news, I know this is starting to feel like a LOT for our Southwest Florida Medicare community. ❤️

Please don’t panic. But please don’t ignore these changes either.

As a nurse, my concern isn’t simply what insurance card is in your wallet. It’s whether you can continue seeing the doctors and specialists you trust, access your preferred hospital, and get the medications and care you need.

This is shaping up to be a very important year to actually review your Medicare coverage instead of automatically letting your current plan roll over.

If you’re in Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral or anywhere in Southwest Florida and you’re wondering whether these changes could affect you, reach out. We’re happy to help you understand what’s changing and review your options as the 2027 information becomes available.

DAY 6 OF 7: “My Kids Will Take Care of Me.” 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

I hear this all the time when talking about long-term care.

And maybe your kids absolutely will help. But what does “take care of me” actually mean?

Are they helping with meals and appointments? Managing medications? Helping you bathe and get dressed? Getting up during the night? Providing supervision if you develop dementia? Cutting back at work, or, even leaving a career?

There’s a big difference between your children helping coordinate your care and having to provide all of your care.

A better plan may allow you to live with family while using your own assets or insurance benefits to bring professional caregivers into the home.

❤️ Your children can be part of your long-term-care plan. They shouldn’t have to BE the entire plan.

Long-term-care planning isn’t only about protecting your money. It’s also about protecting the people you love.

🚨 Lee Health + UnitedHealthcare: DON’T PANIC.

If you have a UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan and use Lee Health, the recent announcement about 2027 probably got your attention.

The good news? You have time AND you may have options.

As a nurse, I look at Medicare coverage through a healthcare lens first: your doctors, specialists, prescriptions and continuity of care all matter. This is one year you’ll want to take a closer look before simply letting your Medicare plan roll over.

🌴 If you’re in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Estero, Bonita Springs or Southwest Florida and this change may affect you, send us a message. We’ll help you understand your options when the 2027 plans become available.

Don’t panic. Get informed. Have a plan. ❤️

🚨 BIG MEDICARE NEWS FOR SOUTHWEST FLORIDA 🚨

If you use Lee Health AND UnitedHealthcare, this is something you need to have on your radar for 2027.

Lee Health has announced it will end its hospital and physician contracts with UnitedHealthcare effective December 31, 2026, impacting certain plans, including UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage.

But please, don’t panic and don’t start changing plans today. You have time, and depending on your coverage, you may have options.

The real question becomes: Is keeping your Lee Health doctors your priority, or is staying with your UnitedHealthcare plan more important?

That answer is different for everyone. And your doctors, specialists, prescriptions and preferred hospitals all need to be considered before making a decision.

🌴 Coastal Palms Health Group is here to help. We serve Medicare beneficiaries throughout Southwest Florida, including Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Estero, Bonita Springs, Naples, Sarasota, Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch.

If you’re affected or you’re helping a parent or loved one figure this out, reach out to us. We can review your situation and help you understand your 2027 Medicare options at no cost to you.
