Harvest 2026 is underway at the Cara Mia Vineyard! The crew started at 4:30 this morning and finished picking 6 tons of Merlot by 10:00 AM.

It's August and time for this season's yield estimates. Given the smoke I thought it especially good timing to assess the vineyard. In short, everything is hunky dory! Damon has the vineyard in great shape - the mildew pressure has been thoroughly mitigated, the floor is clean and the fruit super healthy. Yes it is smokey though really not too bad especially compared to 2020 - and even in 2020 we escaped any and all smoke taint.

Another fabulous trip to Cara Mia Vineyard in the books. Thunderstorms rolling through last night and this morning made for spectacular cloud drama! So I pulled up a lawn chair, had a Belgian beer (oops...), and watched it all unfold. I went back this morning to find an amazing sunrise and pounding cloudbursts. The vineyard is well poised for the push to harvest. Thank you Damon!

“The Unknown Bottle” dated 2006 or earlier, green glass and delicious wine, blend unknown.

Pulled this from our cellar last night, with no indication of what was actually in the bottle. Whatever it was, it was delicious and still showing beautifully!

Virginie Boone's (of JebDunnuck.com) reviews of our 2022s are out and her Bel Canto review is incredibly complimentary:

Winemaker Ben Smith really likes Cabernet Franc, and the 2022 Bel Canto shows his deftness with the grape, where he’s blending 92% Cabernet Franc (upping it from 89% in the 2021) with 8% Merlot from Cara Mia Vineyard. Herbaceous, textured, and full of tension, it evokes Pomerol at its best, with an Old World soul of lovely refinement and a bite of tannin and to***co on the back of the palate. This is elegance squared. It’s one to age and enjoy 2028-2040.
