Traci here! One of the most important things we can do in senior living is see the community through the customer’s eyes.
As I tour communities across the country, I continue to notice something that honestly surprises me…
Twin beds in model apartments.
And I have to ask…
Do any of us spend our lives building beautiful homes, investing in comfort, sleeping in lush, welcoming bedrooms… only to want to end up in what psychologically feels like a college dorm room or childhood bedroom again?
In my opinion, this matters more than many operators realize.
Environment shapes emotion. Emotion shapes decisions.
If a prospective resident walks into a model and subconsciously feels “small,” institutionalized, or reminded of loss instead of possibility, comfort, and dignity… that impacts the sale whether we acknowledge it or not.
If you have models — and I certainly hope you do — consider converting those twin beds into doubles or queens whenever possible.
Ask yourself:
“What would I want?”
That simple shift changes the emotional experience entirely.
Senior living should feel like life evolving beautifully… not life getting smaller.
