Eric brings more than 20 years of experience in the power industry, with a background spanning leadership roles in engineering, field services, operations, and sales. Most recently, he served as General Manager of Field Services at Qualus, building on a career focused on leading teams and helping customers solve complex challenges across the power industry.

Eric earned his MBA from Bellarmine University and holds a degree in Organizational Leadership and Engineering Technology from Purdue University. His diverse background has given him experience across the technical, operational, and customer-facing sides of the industry.

Outside of work, Eric enjoys exercising, gardening, spending time at the grill, and following the Chicago Bears. He and his family also recently welcomed a new Bernedoodle, Poky.

When was the last time your transformers were tested?

Visual inspections are important, but they only tell part of the story.

Depending on the equipment and application, field testing can include turns ratio, winding resistance, insulation power factor, and sweep frequency response analysis. These tests can help identify problems that may not be visible during a routine inspection.

Field service is a lot easier when you don't have to wait for the right equipment to show up.

JCL maintains its own fleet of test equipment, oil-processing units, vacuum trailers, and other field support equipment.

That means fewer moving pieces, less waiting on equipment, and more work handled in the field.

Ever notice these fans mounted on transformer radiators?

They're part of a forced-air cooling system, increasing airflow across the radiators to help the transformer shed heat when additional cooling is needed.

For applications that need more cooling capacity, fans like these can also be added as part of a transformer modification.

A relatively simple addition that can make a meaningful difference in thermal performance.

Transformer oil changes over time.

As oil oxidizes, acidic compounds can form. Measuring the acid number gives us an indication of how much acidic material is present in the oil.

As acid levels increase, the oil can become more degraded, which can contribute to deterioration of the transformer's insulation system.

Testing acid number gives you an early indication of oil degradation, so you can identify changes in condition before they become a larger problem.
