MRES celebrated National Hydropower Day yesterday, Aug. 24, by welcoming legislators, member utilities and members of the public to the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project near Pella, Iowa. Those participating got a behind-the-scenes look at how the natural flow of the Des Moines River generates clean, reliable electricity and learned more about hydropower's important role in MRES' diverse energy portfolio.

For more than 140 years, the power of water has helped keep communities running strong. Hydropower is America’s largest renewable energy resource and remains one of the most reliable. Unlike some energy sources that depend on weather conditions, hydropower can provide consistent, around-the-clock generation that helps support a stable electric grid.

Today we celebrate . Hydropower is the reason our members formed MRES more than 60 years ago — to protect and maintain their hydropower allocations. It’s the foundation of our generation portfolio, and we are proud to be part of a network that continues to invest in dependable energy resources that benefit our community today and for generations to come.
