Your horse doesn’t grow by staying comfortable. 🐴
One of the best things you can do for a horse is take them places.
Different arenas. Different trails. New environments. Busy shows. Long hauls. Strange sights. Hard rides. Unfamiliar situations.
Not because we want to overwhelm them—but because we want to teach them how to handle life.
Ransom has been getting out and experiencing the world, and every trip teaches him something. Sometimes it’s easy. Sometimes it’s hard. Sometimes he has to stop, think, take a breath, and figure things out.
And that’s the point.
I don’t want a horse who only knows how to behave when everything is perfectly familiar and comfortable. I want a horse who has learned, “I’ve been here before. I’ve handled hard things before. I can figure this out.”
Horses need experiences to build confidence. They need reasonable challenges, consistent boundaries, and opportunities to learn that the world isn't always scary just because it's different.
You can’t prepare a horse for life by protecting them from everything difficult.
Sometimes you have to haul them somewhere new.
Sometimes you have to put in the miles.
Sometimes you have to work through the uncomfortable moments.
Sometimes you have to ask a little more of them.
And then you let them rest, process, and realize:
“I did that. And I'm okay.”
That’s how they grow up.
Not by being thrown into the deep end—but by being given safe, thoughtful experiences that teach them how to swim. 🤍
