We don’t usually have a “royal wedding” on the production schedule...

But Courtney and Larry’s son Briggs is getting married, which means our carpentry department has been pulled into a slightly more personal project than usual.

What you're seeing is being transformed into 15-foot-wide backdrop made up of three custom panels, complete with arches, shelving and trim work.

There’s something especially fun about seeing a big idea at this point, when you can finally see the shape of it but still have to use a little imagination for the finished version.

Painting next, then the final details, and then? Party time.

This one is going to look a little different the next time you see it.

The finished frame on the wall tells you nothing about what it took to get there.

Our framing process is built around protecting a piece at every stage before it ever gets close to a frame. Intake inspection to document every detail, mounting as the critical first step, linen wrap liner preparation and curing, and finally a careful assembly process that ensures everything is taught, tight, dust free, and secure.

Moisture, air, and dust are all genuine threats to the integrity of a finished piece, and our process is designed around eliminating them one step at a time.

If the work matters, the process behind it should too.

If you've stood in front of a piece of art and never noticed the glazing, it’s probably Optium.

One of the most trusted names in museum quality, Optium blocks up to 99% of UV rays while staying nearly invisible. It's about half the weight of glass and built to handle frequent transport and high traffic display, which is exactly why it's the acrylic we reach for most in the frame room.

Before any of that performance kicks in though, it has to come off the roll…and that is oddly satisfying. 🔊

10 years ago today, Larry and I stepped into a story that had already been unfolding for 40 years.

Buying Gemini wasn’t about starting from scratch…we inherited decades of history, knowledge, relationships, and people who knew this company long before we did. Our job was to respect what was already here while figuring out where we could take it next.

There have been times we got it right, moments when we learned the hard way, and plenty of decisions I’d understand very differently today than I did ten years ago. I suppose that’s what a decade of ownership is supposed to do to you.

I’m proud of what we’ve added to the story, incredibly grateful for the people who have helped us write it, and very aware that protecting the next chapter sometimes means having the courage to change the plot.

Jerry keeps a list AND he checks it twice.

And if a vendor's been naughty about a shipment deadline, he knows exactly how to handle it.

Impossible deadlines get solved, rare materials nobody else stocks somehow show up anyway, always 'knows a guy'. He may even send out an RFP or two just to keep certain vendors in line, the ones with a habit of falling behind (especially during certain times of year...)

Jerry calls it sourcing and procurement, but we think it’s a little bit of magic. 🎅

So... how big is Gemini? Let's go for a walk.

Our Elgin campus sits on more than five acres, with a 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and offices where ideas move from screens and sketches to actual, tangible things.

Behind those walls, our creative and production teams are building everything from custom framing and acrylic to millwork, signage, art and décor for spaces across the country.

And when it’s time for all that work to leave the building, our warehouse and loading dock keep projects moving toward deliveries and installations nationwide.

It’s a lot of ground to cover.

American Digital had four decades worth sharing, so alongside Rieke Office Interiors, we turned their milestones and memories into a history wall people can actually experience when they walk in.

The mix of printed vinyl, dimensional photos, and acrylic details carries the story across the space and if you ask us?

40 years looks pretty good up on the wall.

39 years.

Let that sink in for a second.

Around here, 10-year anniversaries are something to celebrate. 20 years will really get our attention. But Tom has been part of Gemini’s framing production team for 39 years.

That’s a lot of frames, a lot of change, and a whole lot of mornings showing up with the same positive attitude.

Because ask anyone who knows Tom and they’ll tell you, the smile is part of the package.

Employee retention is something we’re really proud of at Gemini, but numbers like 39 years aren’t really about numbers at all...but about the people who choose to grow alongside you.

Tom, we’re pretty lucky you keep saying yes to us.
