Package rooms and front entry areas are about to get a lot busier.

Before deliveries pile up, apartment managers should review:

📦 Package storage - Is there a secure place for deliveries that keeps boxes out of sight and limits access?

🚪 Entry access - Are exterior doors, gates, and package areas actually closing and locking the way they should?

💡 Visibility - Are walkways, parking areas, and delivery zones well lit and easy to monitor after dark?

A little preparation now can help reduce package theft, resident complaints, and unnecessary headaches later.

Warehouses usually put a lot of attention on what’s happening inside the building.

But some of the easiest opportunities can be sitting just outside it.

🚚 Trailers left in loading areas
🔓 Unsecured gates or fencing
💡 Poorly lit parking and dock areas
📦 Materials or pallets stored outdoors
🚗 Employee vehicles left after hours

Exterior areas often get less attention, which can make them more attractive to the wrong people.

A strong warehouse security plan should protect the entire property - not just the four walls.

More inventory can mean more pressure on every part of your operation.

Receiving areas get busier. Stockrooms fill up. Seasonal staff may be added. Deliveries come and go more often. All of that creates more opportunities for mistakes, confusion, and theft.

Before the rush builds, review:

📦 Who can access receiving and storage areas
🚪 Whether back doors and loading docks are staying secured
👀 Where cameras or staff have limited visibility
📋 How employees should report suspicious activity
🕒 Whether security coverage matches your busiest hours

The goal isn’t to make the season feel restrictive. It’s to make sure growth in activity doesn’t create growth in risk.

Shorter days change the way a property feels after hours.

Parking lots get darker sooner. Employees may be walking to their cars after sunset. Loading areas and side entrances can become harder to monitor.

That makes this a good time to review:

💡 Exterior and parking lot lighting
📹 Camera visibility after dark
🚪 Side doors, gates, and access points
🚓 Patrol timing during opening and closing hours

Seasonal changes can create new security gaps without anyone realizing it. A quick review now can help you catch them before someone else does.

I’ve watched Kimberley lead through a lot of different seasons, and one thing has always been true: strength does not mean pretending hard things are easy.

Her October HerLife Magazine article, “Still Her: The Woman Behind the Pink Ribbon,” is a powerful reminder that behind every breast cancer diagnosis is still a woman with dreams, goals, relationships, fears, and a life that is so much bigger than what she is going through.

I’m proud of her for putting words to something so important.

A power outage can turn a normal property into a very different security environment.

No exterior lighting.
Limited camera coverage.
Electronic gates or access systems may stop working as expected.
And suddenly, the routines everyone relies on need a backup.

That’s why businesses should know:

🔋 Which security systems have backup power
🚪 How doors and gates operate during an outage
📞 Who gets notified when systems go offline
👮 What manual patrol or response procedures take over
📋 How incidents will be documented until power returns

A good security plan should still work when the lights don’t.

Subject: Veto Request - SB 1203

Dear Governor Newsom,

My name is Lawrence Borgens, and I am President of Delta Protective Services, a licensed private security company operating in Stockton and Northern California. We employ about 70 security officers and serve restaurants, distribution and manufacturing facilities, shopping centers, construction sites, hotels, apartment communities, residential properties, and HOAs.

I am writing to respectfully request that you veto SB 1203. While we strongly support rigorous training for security professionals, California already leads the nation in this area. We believe this bill will produce serious unintended consequences:

• California already has the strongest security officer training requirements in the nation. SB 1203 would add substantial new requirements and costs without a demonstrated public safety benefit.
• The added costs will be passed on from security companies to clients and ultimately to California consumers through higher prices for goods, services, housing, and other necessities.
• Higher costs will push some businesses toward unlicensed, untrained, and unregulated security alternatives. Californians could be punished twice by paying more while receiving less protection.

SB 1203 risks making California less safe, not more, by driving up costs and pushing businesses toward unregulated alternatives. We urge a veto.
