“The industry is fu**ed. There’s not enough work to go around.” 🙄

Listen to that long enough and it becomes true for you. Not because the work is gone, but because you stop doing the things that get actors hired.

Let’s be honest about the numbers first. 📉 LA logged 4,711 on-location shoot days last quarter. The same quarter in 2019 had 8,632. Nobody is imagining the contraction.

Here’s what the doom crowd leaves out: 👇

🎬 Most of the feature films shooting in LA right now are independents. Those are cast through relationships, not through the old gatekeepers.

🛡️ When California capped its film tax credits this summer, the fix lawmakers passed fully exempted independent productions. The indie lane is the one being protected.

🎥 Nearly every first-round film and TV audition is now a self-tape. You can be considered for projects in Atlanta, New York, and New Mexico from your living room.

The work didn’t disappear. It moved: to different cities, different budget levels, and different people doing the hiring. 📍

The actors struggling most right now are running a system built for the industry we had 10 years ago. Get a rep. Wait for the phone. Hope pilot season delivers. ⏳

That system assumed LA was the only market, your agent was the only door, and there was a season to wait for. None of that is true anymore.

The actors working in 2026 run their careers like a business.

💼 They know which markets they’re competitive in. They build direct relationships with the people who actually hire. They don’t hand their whole career to one leg of the table.

You can’t control how many shoot days there are. You can control whether your system matches the industry that exists. 🔑
