Let me be honest with you for a second.

About a month ago, a national industry software company called FieldRoutes published a four-part feature on Open Range Pest Control and our family-run team out here in the West Valley. To say I was humbled is an understatement.

But here is the absolute truth: national spotlights don’t build a business—our neighbors do.

We are only here because homeowners across Surprise, Sun City, Peoria, and Glendale took a chance on a local family, waved at our trucks in the neighborhood, and told their friends and family about us. Every single customer built this company with us.

When we say Open Range is truly a homegrown, family business... we mean it! 🏈❤️
This photo was taken 17 years ago. My good friend Todd took me, my son, and his boys to our very first pro football game right here in the Valley.
Take a look at the two boys on the right: that's Christopher and Tucker.
Fast forward nearly two decades, and those two kids in Cardinals jerseys are now grown men running our service routes every single day, keeping homes safe from pests and termites all across the West Valley.
A lot of companies use the phrase "family-owned," but building a company alongside your son and lifelong family friends is what makes Open Range truly special. In 25 years of Arizona pest control, this is only the second time I’ve ever seen one of these alive in the wild... 🪵😳
​While spending some downtime at the cabin this weekend, I flipped an old piece of fallen timber and ran right into a Giant Desert Centipede (Scolopendra heros).
​As North America’s largest centipede, these desert predators can reach over 8 inches long. They are equipped with specialized front legs called "forcipules" that inject venom to take down desert prey—including scorpions, tarantulas, and even small lizards.
​Because they lose moisture easily in dry heat, they stay buried deep under decaying wood, rock piles, and mountain washbeds. Monsoon humidity brings them up closer to the surface.
​I’ve handled just about every insect and pest the desert can throw at you, but these guys will always give me the wi***es!

The Sonoran Desert food chain in full effect! 🦎💥
Tucker captured another crazy moment out in the field this week—a massive desert spiny lizard taking down a gecko right on a block wall.
Living in Arizona, we get a front-row seat to some incredible desert wildlife. But when insect populations spike around your property, it acts like an all-you-can-eat buffet that draws in geckos, lizards, and eventually bigger predators right up to your foundation and doorways.

Close call in the field this morning! 🐍😳
​While out servicing a property today, Tucker almost stepped right on this well-camouflaged rattlesnake tucked between the wall and the storage unit. Thankfully, this fella let out a loud rattle just in time for Tucker to back away safely!
​Take a close look at the video—it’s incredible how perfectly these desert critters blend right into our local gravel. It is so easy to miss them if you aren't looking closely.
​While Open Range isn't licensed for venomous reptile removal, Tucker made sure to alert the homeowner immediately and walked him through the exact steps to get a licensed local wildlife removal specialist out to handle it safely.
​Just a good reminder for all our West Valley neighbors to keep your eyes open around side yards, AC equipment, and patio corners this time of year!
