☀️ FROM BUDGET DEFICIT TO TEACHER PAY RAISES, ALL POWERED BY SOLAR

What if cutting electricity bills could help schools pay teachers more instead of cutting programs?

🏫 Batesville School District in Arkansas found exactly that. After a 2017 energy audit revealed annual utility costs exceeding $600,000, the district invested in a comprehensive energy-efficiency project. It installed more than 1,400 solar panels at Batesville High School while upgrading lighting, HVAC systems, and windows across all six schools serving about 3,200 students. The project is expected to save at least $2.4 million over 20 years and reduce annual energy consumption by 1.6 million kilowatt-hours (kWh).

💰 Within three years, the savings helped transform the district's $250,000 budget deficit into a $1.8 million surplus. A significant share of those savings was directed toward educators, resulting in average teacher pay raises of $2,000 to $3,000. The success also inspired at least 20 nearby school districts to pursue similar solar and energy-efficiency projects.
