A security guard was among the three people who tragically lost their lives in the San Diego Islamic center shooting, according to police.

As security professionals, we don’t get to choose when or where violence occurs. But we can prepare our mindset. Continuously assessing your environment, identifying potential cover or concealment, and recognizing vulnerabilities are essential habits. If you find yourself in a post with limited protection, it’s important to consider additional measures or adjustments that could improve your safety and the safety of those you’re responsible for.

May the three individuals who lost their lives rest in peace. My prayers are with their families, loved ones, and the entire community affected by this tragedy.

Be safe. Be aware. Be a difficult Target!

Preparation is key to a successful detail.

Every event is different, every crowd is different, every batch of VIPs is different, every exterior Security perimeter is different, every credential & access control is different, every stage or arena is different and every event at the same location is different.

Point is, you need to be adjusting, doing advances, planning and prepping for the worse when receiving security.

If you are receiving the same breakdown of security protocols and procedures for multiple locations, you aren’t receiving security personnel instead of security structure plus adequate personnel.

Structure and logistics plays a huge roll, in case of emergencies, like active shooters, fires, floods, altercations and work violence situations.

Check with your local security specialist for a second opinion on your security layout.

It’s better an ounce of preparation, than a pound of regret.
