What if leadership didn't require sacrificing yourself in the process?

For the past six months, that question has been at the center of our first-ever Becoming a Leader at Peace cohort. Yesterday they wrapped up their final session together, and we couldn't be prouder of this group of leaders.

This group of conscious leaders showed up to each session vulnerable, reflective, and curious. They worked through the Seven Conscious Questions framework and other concepts from Aileron coach and facilitator and co-creator of Becoming a Leader at Peace, Erika Alessandrini's new book Maybe It's Me, designed to help leaders interrupt their autopilot and make more intentional choices in the moments that matter most.

This work was built on a simple belief: the people who matter most deserve the best of you, not the rest of you.

One cohort member shared: "This program is so impactful and really changing the way I'm approaching others and stressful situations for the better. I'm starting to see improvements in my life already thanks to the program."

Our next cohort kicks off September 21. If you're ready to protect your peace without losing your edge, reserve your spot today. https://hubs.ly/Q04lxmWR0

Last Friday, we welcomed back Empower alumnae to Aileron's Campus for a half-day focused on leadership growth and development.

Aileron coach and facilitator Erika Alessandrini led the group through a session on finding peace under pressure, drawing from Aileron's newest cohort program Becoming a Leader at Peace and Erika's new book, Maybe It's Me. The conversation was honest, personal, and exactly what a room full of driven leaders needed.

We are so grateful for the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce's continued partnership and our shared belief that investing in women leaders in the Dayton community matters.

Empower Cohort 9 applications close June 19. Application link in comments.

The second half of the year has a way of arriving before you're ready for it.

For most leaders, the response is to push harder, keep up the pace, and handle what is in front of them. Aileron coach and facilitator Erika Alessandrini made the case at last year's Summit that the leaders who grow through seasons aren't the ones who push harder, they're the ones who learn to pause.

Erika said, "Everything in life is a choice. Conscious leadership gives you the power to choose what version of yourself you bring into each situation."

Getting there requires more than good intentions. It requires stepping away from the day-to-day long enough to actually work on your leadership.

That's why Aileron created Summit, our annual business leadership conference built for presidents and strategic leaders who are carrying the weight of the business and looking to make that intentional pause.

Join us September 22-23 on Aileron's Campus for two days to gain real perspective, focus on your growth, and connect with peers who understand what you are carrying.

Early bird offer: Purchase a President's ticket before August 1 and receive a complimentary one-on-one pre-event coaching session.

What would it take for you to feel like you're not carrying this alone?

If that question caused you to think, that's exactly what an empowering question is supposed to do. It opens a door, invites the person on the other side of the conversation to think, say the thing they haven't said yet, and feel like you actually want to hear it.

Asking empowering questions is a skill that takes time to develop and is often overlooked. Leaders have a tendency to problem-solve, give answers, and keep moving, and those are hard habits to unlearn. But knowing when and how to ask the right question can change the entire outcome of a conversation, and once you do, you'll have a hard time approaching a conversation any other way.

Prioritizing your growth as a leader is hard to do in the summer. With a full calendar, work piling up, and family activities taking over, becoming a better leader gets pushed to the bottom of the list. But the people around you at work and at home notice when you show up with more intention, and that's worth carving out space for.

Take a day for yourself this summer at Leading Powerful Conversations. One day on Aileron's Campus surrounded by leaders who are doing the same. You'll walk away with skills in active listening, asking empowering questions, and navigating conversations with more clarity and confidence.

Join us June 23 for Leading Powerful Conversations, because the people in your life deserve the best version of you, and so do you. https://hubs.ly/Q04kYRGL0

The gap between how you lead and how it lands is often invisible from where you're standing.

The way you lead builds up quietly over time, and very few leaders stop to ask whether those tendencies are still working for them. Some of the habits you are most proud of might be the ones standing between where you are and where your team could go.

Keep reading to discover patterns that might be getting in your way.

Next in our series, meet Michael Daley, Aileron's Director of Technology.

Michael brings nearly 20 years of experience in IT and business transformation to this role, including successfully exiting his own technology company in 2021. Michael's not just someone who understands technology, but what it's actually like to run a business.

When asked why he chose Aileron, Michael put it this way: "I chose to be part of Aileron because of the culture and community — it's truly one of those rare places where the people and the mission are deeply aligned. As someone who's lived the journey of owning a business, being part of an organization that exists to support other owners just feels right."

We're lucky to have Michael and the perspective he brings with him!

What would it look like to lead from a place of clarity rather than pressure?

Stacey Lawson, Chief Human Resources Officer at Premier Health, spoke to a room full of leaders about this very topic at Aileron Summit 2025 as part of our Community Spotlight Series.

When she spoke about leaders craving focus, she zeroed in on the idea of the pause and introduced a concept that resonated with the room: the "mound visit." In baseball, a mound visit is the moment when the pitcher and coach step back, recalibrate, and reset before getting back in the game.

The best leaders know they need those moments too. A mound visit might look like carving out time to reflect on your mindset, asking yourself what's working, or identifying what needs to change before moving forward.

When's the last time you took a mound visit?

That's exactly what Summit is built for. Join us September 22-23 on the Aileron Campus for two days of honest conversation, real perspective, and the space to lead with more clarity than you came in with.

Early-bird offer: Purchase a President’s ticket before August 1 and receive a complimentary pre-event one-on-one coaching session to prepare for what you'll work on at Summit.

Summer is just getting started and somehow your calendar is already looking packed.

Between family commitments, a packed schedule, and a full plate at work, the constant have-to's have a way of pushing your own growth as a leader to the back burner.

When life's demands start piling up and the pressure gets to you, even the people you care about most can end up on the receiving end of a conversation you wish had gone differently.

What if you didn't have to leave your next conversation wishing you'd handled it differently? You're not alone in this. At Aileron, we built our Leading Powerful Conversations workshop to help you navigate moments like this, so you're ready when the next hard conversation finds you.

You'll walk away feeling equipped and empowered to have better, more thoughtful conversations with the people in your life, starting that same day.

Reserve your spot for our upcoming workshop on June 23 to learn how to stop stumbling through difficult conversations and start leading them.

Continuing our series, we're spotlighting Brianna Nichols who was recently promoted to Senior Accountant here at Aileron!

Brianna has been part of the team since 2022, coming to us after three years in public accounting and a degree from Saint Mary's College. She was drawn to Aileron's mission from the start, and honestly, it shows.

She finds meaning in the details, keeping systems running smoothly so everyone around her can do their best work and pouring that same care into the people she works alongside.

When asked what she's constantly striving to get better at, Brianna said: "Helping others feel seen, heard, and valued. I'm constantly striving to get better at listening to others and seeing things from their perspectives. I want to invest in people and have them know I care about them and their thoughts, ideas, and feelings."

Please join us in celebrating Brianna on her promotion!

Good leaders know how to perform under pressure. The best ones know they don't have to do it alone.

Last year at Summit, Aileron coach and facilitator Erika Alessandrini led a session on sharing power for a group of leaders who thought they already had a handle on it. One idea that hit home for the leaders in that room: fear masquerading as responsibility and help promotes control, and control prevents winning.

The hardest part of growing as a leader isn't just recognizing what needs to change. It's that most leaders try to figure that out alone. That kind of honest work is hard to do in isolation, and Summit is where you do it with people who are in it alongside you.

Summit is Aileron's annual business leadership conference, built for business owners, presidents, CEOs, and the senior leaders who help move their businesses forward. Join us September 22-23 at the Aileron Campus in Tipp City, Ohio.

Purchase a President's ticket before August 1 and receive a complimentary pre-event coaching session ($300 value) at https://hubs.ly/Q04jdD8J0.
