REMEMBERING OUR FALLEN CHIEF
Fire Chief Michael Dallas Hoover
February 8, 1956 – October 14, 1992
34 Years Later — His Sacrifice Is Never Forgotten
On this day, October 14, 1992, the Tabernacle Volunteer Fire Department and our community experienced a heartbreaking loss with the line-of-duty death of Fire Chief Michael Dallas Hoover.
Chief Hoover, only 36 years old, was returning to the fire station after responding to a vehicle fire when he was tragically killed in a motor vehicle collision.
He answered the call that day, just as he had so many times before, with a commitment to serving and protecting his community.
Tragically, it would be his final alarm.
Today, 34 years later, we pause to honor not only his ultimate sacrifice but also his leadership, dedication, and the legacy he left behind.
Chief Hoover’s name is forever honored on the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland, ensuring that his sacrifice will never be forgotten.
As members of the Tabernacle Volunteer Fire Department, we recognize that our department’s history was built upon the dedication and sacrifices of those who served before us.
We especially remember Chief Hoover’s family, friends, and the firefighters who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
