Recognized for her exceptional leadership in advancing the SC-214 Standards for Traffic Data Communication Services, Claire shares her story:
Q: What got you into the aerospace industry?
"I've always loved airplanes, so I knew that I wanted to work in aerospace. I went to Harvey Mudd College, and I got a general engineering degree there. Later, I received a Master's in Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech. Out of college, I started working in avionics, and I've just been doing it ever since. When I started doing the industry work as well, I just really fell in love with datalink."
Q: Tell me about your recent achievement with the RTCA?
"SC-214 is an RTCA Special Committee focused on Standards for Traffic Data Communication Services. I started chairing SC-214 in the fall of 2020, which was a tough time to start because everything was still completely virtual. As the chair, I'm working to make sure that we, as a group, are progressing on our deliverables. The standards that we've said will be updated and that everyone is getting a chance to participate. We've been very active in SC-214; we've released 4 standards, 2 change documents, and an internal report in that time. So, that's a lot of work that's gone into those."
Q: Favorite project you've had the opportunity to work on?
"Well, you know, I couldn't possibly pick a favorite. They're all great. I think one thing that's really exciting right now is coinciding with the industry work with newer technology mandates like ATS Baseline 2. We've got a long history of successful datalink products, so it makes sense for us to keep pushing that forward."
