There's a difference between sounding interesting and sounding clear.

Interesting gets attention.

Clear gets decisions.

I see this on LinkedIn all the time. A post gets likes because it's clever. But the person's DMs stay empty. Their inbox stays quiet. Nobody reaches out to work with them.

Why❓

Because the reader enjoyed the content but couldn't figure out what the person actually does. Or who it's for.

Clever hooks with unclear positioning is just entertainment.

Clear messaging with a specific buyer in mind is a business strategy.

You don't need to be more interesting.

You need to be immediately understood by the right person.

Clarity compounds. Cleverness fades.

Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Today I'm thinking about the people who gave everything so the rest of us could have choices.

Growing up on a farm in North Dakota, this day wasn't a sales event. It was quiet. Families gathered. Flags were placed with care.

As a business owner, I have the freedom to build something meaningful every day. That freedom was purchased by someone else's sacrifice.

So today I'm just pausing and honoring the men and women who made this life possible.

To every family who carries that loss, thank you will never be enough. But it's what I have. 💛

1️⃣ Only about 1-3% of LinkedIn members post content regularly. Meanwhile, millions of users engage with professional and brand content every single week.

2️⃣ Most LinkedIn users browse on mobile and decide very quickly whether a post is worth reading.

3️⃣ Carousel-style posts consistently outperform many other LinkedIn formats in engagement.

Here's what stands out to me ➡️

The audience is showing up. They're paying attention. They're engaging.

But almost nobody is creating.

And the people who are creating? Most of them are losing readers in seconds because the message doesn't land fast enough.

Your first two lines are doing the heaviest lifting of any content you'll ever write. If those don't connect, the rest doesn't matter.

Show up. Be clear. Say it in their language, not yours.

Today is National Decency Day.

Honestly, we didn't need a day for it. 😅

Every week I see outreach messages that feel like ambushes. Copy-paste pitches from strangers who never looked at my profile. "Strategies" built on pressure and making people feel small so they'll say yes.

That's not selling. That's manipulation with a marketing budget.

Decency is a business strategy.

Ask before you pitch. Listen before you prescribe. Respect someone's time before you ask for their money.

The business owners I admire most aren't the loudest. They're the ones who make you feel heard in the first five minutes.

People buy from people they trust. Trust starts with basic human decency.

Today and every day.

Ask a business owner to solve a complex problem and they'll do it in their sleep.

Ask them to describe what they do in one sentence.

And they freeze.

Not because they don't know their work. They know it deeply. That's actually the problem.

When you're close to something, you over-explain it. You add layers. You use language that makes sense to you but lands flat on the person listening.

I've done this myself. Early in my business, I'd walk someone through my entire process before they even understood the problem I solve.

A mentor finally told me, "Iris, I still don't know what you do."

That stung. But it changed everything.

The fix wasn't learning more about my craft. It was learning how my buyer needed to hear it.

Expertise doesn't sell itself. The way you talk about your expertise does.

If people keep saying "that's interesting" but never buy, the gap isn't your skill.

It's your language.

LinkedIn fun facts, part 2. 🤓

1️⃣ 134.5 million people log in daily. That's a city bigger than most countries.

2️⃣ 7 people get hired on LinkedIn every single minute. Every. Minute.

3️⃣ LinkedIn added two new creator metrics: saves and sends. You can now track how many people bookmark your content and privately share it.

Here's what that tells me ➡️

Likes are nice. Saves and sends are where the real buying signals live.

Someone saves your post? They're coming back to it. Someone sends it to a colleague? They're vouching for you.

If your content isn't getting saved or shared, the message might not be landing with the right people.

Same lesson as always. Clarity attracts. Confusion gets scrolled past.

I brought home another clearance plant from Lowe's this week. 🪴

Half dead. Brown leaves. Marked down to $2.

My daughter looked at it and said, "Mom, that one's done."

I said, "No. It just needs someone who knows what it actually needs."

Repotted it. Moved it to the right light. Gave it time.

That's the same thing I see with business owners every week.

Their message isn't dead. It's just in the wrong environment.

Wrong positioning. Wrong language. Wrong audience hearing it.

So they assume the offer is broken. They start over. New website. New funnel. New everything.

When the real fix was never about starting over.

It was about understanding what the message actually needs to thrive.

Plants and businesses have more in common than people think.

Put either one in the right conditions and watch what happens. 🌱
