Hiring in Saskatchewan. Peepeekisis Funeral Home is looking for its
first Managing Funeral Director ahead of opening later this year.

It's a purpose-built Indigenous-led facility on Peepeekisis Cree
Nation in Treaty 4 Territory, designed to accommodate smudging,
drumming circles, and the cultural protocols Indigenous families
have historically had to set aside in conventional funeral
settings. Built around tradition, open to every family in the
surrounding communities who needs the service.

Saskatchewan licensure required. Pre-opening leadership role.
Mortuary, crematory, HR, and financial stewardship all under one
position.

šŸ”„ It's that time of year again, and we're heading back to Atlanta!

This July, Poul Lemasters, Esq. and I will be at ICCFA University at Emory and spend a full day geeking out over cremation operations, and honestly? We have a blast doing it.

Come join us for the Crematory Operator Certification course. We cover the real stuff: combustion principles, equipment operation, maintenance, compliance, record keeping, all of it. By the end of the day, you'll have the knowledge to sit for the ICCFA Cremation Operator Certification exam and make it official.

But here's the thing, ICCFA U isn't your typical stuffy conference. The learning is serious. The fun is mandatory.
šŸ˜„

Oh, and if one day isn't enough? Stay for the whole week for the College of Cremation Services. You won't regret it.
Crematory operators, funeral directors, and anyone working in or around cremation — this class is for you.

Today is about a sacred and specific truth.
While Veterans Day invites us to thank all who have worn the uniform, Memorial Day asks something different from us. It is the day reserved solely to honor those who stepped onto the battlefield and never returned. They paid for our today with their entire tomorrow.
At Raven Plume Consulting, we believe that true legacy requires precise remembrance. To fully appreciate the depth of this day, we look past the long weekend and focus entirely on the weight of that ultimate sacrifice.
Today, we pause to reflect. We remember the names of the fallen, the families they left behind, and the unwritten futures they surrendered for ours.
May we live lives worthy of their sacrifice. Have a meaningful, deeply reflective Memorial Day.

More Random Tuesday proselytizing...

Today's cremation consumer is different. They are not opting out of ceremony, they are opting in to a different one. They want a gathering, just not in a chapel. They want to memorialize, just not in stone. They want to spend, just not on what their grandparents bought. Families never stopped caring. They stopped recognizing themselves in the menu the industry kept printing.

The opportunity is not to mourn the old buyer. It is to recognize the new one and meet them with something worth choosing.

Galloping into the Year of the Fire Horse! šŸŽšŸ”„
At Raven Plume, we’re leaning into the high-octane energy of 2026. As a Westerner, I’ve learned that if you want to keep the good vibes flowing, there are a few "bad luck" traps to avoid today.
Pro-tip: Put these on your "Do Not Do" list for Day 1:
🧹 No Sweeping: You’ll literally sweep your wealth out the door.
🧼 No Hair Washing: Don't wash your luck down the drain!
āœ‚ļø No Scissors: You don’t want to "cut" your path to success.
🄣 No Porridge: It symbolizes lean times; stick to the dumplings.
🚫 No Arguing: Keep it chill, or you’ll be stressed all year.
Here’s to a year of bold moves and zero broken brooms. Happy Lunar New Year! 🧧✨

Nothing represents love and the "unconditional" quite like our pets—but the sentiment remains the same for every family you serve, whether their loss is a Spouse, a Mother, a son, a sister, a cousin, or a dog, a cat, a spider, a snake, a bunny, or a parrot.
Today, we celebrate the deep, enduring love that inspires the work we all do every day. Happy Valentine’s Day from our entire team to yours. ā¤ļøāœØ

If a family feels "friction" when working with you, or asks for the impossible, it’s often because your processes are serving your history, not their reality.

Times have changed. Today’s families demand transparency and a higher standard of care. Recognizing those signs is the difference between a firm that is merely surviving and one that is thriving.

Is your firm ready to meet the modern consumer? You'd be surprised how impactful even small process improvements can be in your operation.

The best place to begin is with a Current State Assessment. By identifying the operational gaps and inconsistencies that are commonplace in our profession, you can remove the hurdles that are holding your firm back from its full potential.

Let’s talk about how to "people-proof" your operation for the future. We can help! Via phone, internet, or even text messages! (no fax machines or smoke signals please!) We can even travel to your firms and meet with you and your staff in person to help bridge that gap—honoring your legacy while building the excellence required for today. ā˜•ļøāœˆļø

In deathcare, we often talk about the "way it’s always been done." There is immense value in the traditions handed down to us—they are the bedrock of our service. But as a profession, we must remember: we don't shape the industry. The consumer does.

The families walking into our firms today aren't the same as the ones who visited thirty years ago. They are looking for more than just a process; they are looking for transparency, modern ritual, and a connection that makes sense in 2026.

Reading the signs isn’t about discarding our heritage. It’s about listening to what families are asking for—even when they don't use our industry's vocabulary. Are your SOPs and service models built for the modern consumer, or are they built for a world that no longer exists?

At Raven Plume Consulting, I help firms bridge that gap—honoring tradition while building the operational excellence required for the next 100 years.

Let’s stop relying on the old playbook and start looking at the signs right in front of us.
