A family disaster plan helps make sure everyone knows what to do and where to go when an emergency happens.

As part of National Preparedness Month, take a few minutes to make a plan with everyone in your household, including:

✅ Your evacuation routes and where you’ll meet if separated
✅ How family members will communicate if phone service is disrupted
✅ Any specific needs for children, older adults, pets, or family members with disabilities

Once you have a plan, practice it together and make sure everyone knows their role. A little planning now can make it much easier to act quickly when every second counts.

Cub Scout Pack 580 recently stopped by Station 32 in Yorba Linda, bringing along a gift basket and handmade thank-you cards for our firefighters.

Our crew returned the favor with a behind-the-scenes look at life at the fire station. Scouts and their families toured the station, got an up-close look at firefighting tools and equipment, and learned what a firefighter looks and sounds like when fully dressed in turnout gear.

Station visits like these are a great opportunity for kids to become familiar with firefighters and their equipment before an emergency ever happens—and for our crews to connect with the communities they serve.

A flag raised high in remembrance.

This past weekend, OCFA was honored to join the Yorba Linda community at East Lake Village for a September 11th remembrance event coordinated by For Families of Active Military.

Truck 32 raised the American flag above the gathering from its aerial ladder, creating a powerful backdrop as the community came together to remember those whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the first responders, service members, and families whose lives were forever changed by that day.

Battalion Chief Kuzma joined the Truck 32 crew in representing OCFA at the event.

25 years later, we remember.

Ahead of the 25th anniversary of September 11, OCFA was honored to join the Yorba Linda community for several remembrance events hosted by the Richard Nixon Foundation and the Nixon Library. The events brought families together while honoring the sacrifice, resilience, and unity that followed September 11, 2001.

At the All-American Family Festival, Truck 32 raised the American flag high above the event with its aerial ladder while the crew spent time with families and handed out fire helmets to some of our youngest community members.

Today, on September 11, we remember the lives lost, honor the first responders and ordinary Americans who answered the call, and reflect on the spirit of service and unity that emerged in the days that followed.

We will never forget.

Congratulations to the newest graduates of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training in Yorba Linda! Over the course of three weeks, participants learned practical skills designed to help them assist their families, neighbors, and community in the event of a large-scale disaster.

Training included disaster preparedness, incident command, fire safety, disaster medical operations, terrorism awareness, light search & rescue, and triage—culminating in a disaster simulation where students put those skills into practice.

Take a look at the emergency incidents our Division 4 crews responded to in August, broken down by incident type.

From medical emergencies and traffic collisions to fires and rescues, OCFA personnel stand ready to serve our communities with professionalism, compassion, and a commitment to excellence.

Note: These are preliminary counts pending final review. Official incident response statistics will be published in the 2026 Annual Report. Division 4’s response areas include Tustin, Villa Park, Yorba Linda, and the surrounding unincorporated areas of Orange County.

What do schools and fire stations have in common?

They’re both vital parts of a strong community.

Engine 37 recently visited first graders at Heritage Elementary in Tustin where students are learning about towns and the important services that help them thrive.

Our firefighters talked about fire safety, what firefighters do, and why communities need fire stations strategically located so crews can respond quickly when an emergency happens.

The students also learned an important lesson every child should know: If there’s a fire, medical emergency, or another situation where someone needs help right away, call 911. Let the dispatcher know where you are and what your emergency is.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing steps you can take to help prepare your family and your home for a disaster. From making a family disaster plan and building an emergency supply kit to hardening your home and knowing where to get critical information, a little preparation now can make a big difference when disaster strikes.

From a special delivery to a special visitor.

This little one stopped by Station 21 in Tustin with her family to visit the firefighters who had the honor of taking part in her birthing story. Just a few weeks ago, after a successful home delivery, Engine 21 firefighters provided post-delivery care to both mom and baby. Kudos to mom and dad for doing such a great job with the delivery!

Reunions like these always bring plenty of smiles to the station. Join us in welcoming the newest addition to our Tustin community!
